i guess one of two things

1. put back the old bushing, looks smooth as a babies a$$ and appears to me to have no bushing material left at all, but it turn very freely.

2. run it with the new bushing and let it slowly wear down.
that is assuming that it isn't okay already.

i don't see any major sized shavings of metal....nothing really at all. and i am guessing that bushings wear overtime anyways and put off a bit of metal dust that the filter should catch or that regular fluid changes will get rid of.

and thanks turbo....my chin just went back up a bit.....

I'm starting to wonder if the bushing you put in was the wrong one...

And I'm glad that your chin's up, keep it up. You should be proud that you're doing what a lot of people won't/can't do.

i'll contact Max about it on Tuesday...guessing they are closed tomorrow.

we'll see what they say.

the old one really just looks like a metal sleeve....no bushing material left to speak of. so i am concerned about using that one too.

on the outside diameter they look very similar, but obviously the inside diameter is not right or something.

and lets just keep out fingers crossed that when i put this all together one day it wont explode.....LOL! (notice i laugh now....)

Hear hear Hank, do keep that chin up, you've come a long way and are very close to the finish. That bushing should have a .002 to .003 clearance on that reactor shaft and thus should turn easily. Yours obviously does not, for whatever reason.

HH56's picture shows the type of inexpensive bore gages I use with great success. You expand them in the bushing, lock them, then measure across their points with a caliper. Measure the shaft with the same caliper and find the difference.

If you put it together that tight, the shaft will expand with heat from friction and seize. You should be able to grasp the reactor shaft with your fingertips and twirl it and even notice the difference in resistance as you turn it CW or CCW because of the clutch. No way you should have to beat the TC on to the tranny, and you should be able to turn it with one finger in either direction when installed. Nothing in the TC should be tight enough to make the transmission turn along with it as you rotate the TC by hand.

I am wondering if your reactor shaft has somehow gotten egg-shaped? Wait a minute, now that I think of it,from all you describe, I think you have less than zero end play in your convertor and all the guts are squashed and clamped together. Try loosening all the TC bolts a few turns and see how everything spins then. Will be out of town til Friday.

i also found a fellow on eBay selling NOS with the bushing installed already....here are the pictures he was nice enough to send me. looks like i installed it in the right spot....so has to be a bushing issue.

okay, update...ROSS you are on to something. i loosened up the 4 bolts i have holding the TC together for right now....wouldn't you know i can spin the reactor shaft by hand, with some force, not too bad, but it turns pretty freely.

if i tighten the 4 bolts to torque specs 20-25 ft lbs....i can't turn the shaft by hand anymore.

i await your return on Friday, unless someone else can tell me before i read my brains out trying to figure out what that means. (reactor shaft bushing not right thickness for endplay spec maybe?) if so i will need to get a dial indicator, but i don't have the Packard tool to use with it to insert in the TC. doh!

here is some misc work i did tonight. i was able to get the water pump free and spinning on the vice grip. and i put another load of bolts and nuts in the vibrator thingy. i LOVE that thing.

How long does that tumbler take to clean a load of bolts? I just bought a media blast cabinet, but forgot the bucket they have for blasting bolts. I wonder if the cabinet or this tumbler is better?
