If it has a boot that matches the top and period photos then perhaps it may be an original.

However, he needs to buy a can of spray paint from the grocery store and paint over the radiator shell if he wants to sell the car. At least that is what everybody is doing to those cars. I assume because they hate those radiators and want it to look more like a modern Chevrolet.
