HI
I am getting my 1936 120 conv/coupe painted and here is the question
We took the whelping that is between the hood and the body off. Did not want to paint the fire wall as the paint is good and I am not changing the color. It is attached with rivets.
1 Are these rivets something special or can I just use pop rivets?
2 If they are something special, got a source?

Thanks again
W James

Max Merritt sells the correct shoulder rivets for that period.

They are split rivets, not pop rivets. they have a 5-16 head on them, I'm not sure on the exact length, they are available on e-bay, search on "split rivets" use the nickel plated.

Yeah, and not to be a stickler, but it's fender WELTING, not whelping, the denotation of which is far removed from anything to do with a fender. Chris.

Let me clarify, on my 1937 "120" the grill shell to hood welting used the split rivets, the body cowl to hood used a short spiral nail which are available from Merrit

Itís also a grille, not a grill. Anyway, interestingly, I found a new roll of welting from the Ď60s in my shop!
