Today was a beautiful, albeit very warm, day in Tucson Arizona (temp approaching 90). I attended the show representing all Packards everywhere and had a blast! My 400 didn't take a trophy (ugh) but again I had lots of compliments and many people thanked me for bringing her out. As an aside, I now have 1300 miles on her since her debut in July 2010.

Taking the trophies this time in my class were the following; 1950 Dodge Wayfarer roadster convertible (with only 2 miles on her), 1950 Mercury coupe ( a real beauty!) and a 1957 Ford convertible. There were 401 cars in attendance and lots of money was raised by Rotarians for local charities.

Best in show was a 1955 (I think) Mercedes Benz Gullwing. This car has was totally restored and it has remained in the same family since 1961.

A 1939 Packard Super 8 convertible took best in its class but unfortunately I didn't get to meet the owner. Lastly, my pal Mike Osier attended his very first car show with his 1941 Buick sedanette. Mike only finished his car yesterday and he was glowing with excitement all day long!

Sounds like a nice event, thanks for the pictures.

BTW, I believe that Dodge Wayfarer to be a real throwback car, a true roadster (no rollup windows). A pretty rare car, even when new.

PS - are Dodge Vipers true roadsters? I was on the verge of saying the Wayfarer was the last American roadster but suddenly I thought perhaps the Viper was.

Dave, small correction. Kevin is talking about a 1950 Dodge Wayfarer so it should already have rollup windows. You are of course right in saying that the first 1949 Wayfarer "Sportabouts" were true roadsters. Their lift-out windows were soon replaced by conventional rollup's six months after market launch.

The nitpicker, best of after show contest.

Edit: After rereading I see that Kevin called it a "1950 Dodge Wayfarer roadster convertible" - Babylonian confusion.

The first Viper had no side windows or outside door handles. There was a fixed targa-style rear window, and a removable soft cover that connected the windshield to the targa bar. So a roadster on the window criterion, but I'm not sure with the targa
