The 1/4 20 slotted flat head screws used in the middle steel bows mounting have a .500 max head diameter and 5/8 overall length. The nuts are .200 thick ,maybe jam nuts are this thickness. Hope this helps for your top bow figures.

Got the quote back from plating... Not going to do that!

Even though you had to pick yourself off the floor after seeing the price, be glad you still have a reasonable access to plating shops.

We used to be flush with them but most have gone away. With an article in the paper a few weeks ago it makes those few we still have look like they could be highly endangered and on borrowed time. There is a push on now to go after a substance at the heart of the chrome plating process. If it is not banned completely, to keep using it will require some very costly mods and if either happens you can figure what happens next.

Yea I heard California is going after the chemical used in the process to make the 50's era chrome. There are others that are not being targeted (yet), but those apparently are more grey in color.

So I shipped them out in July of 2021. so if I get them back in march that would be about a year and a half. I did send the originals to them.

if this was a leather interior, or had one of the other simpler materials I may have just had them made locally due to time and cost.

If cost is a concern, buy a kit from Grain it Technologies and do it yourself. It’s not that hard to get a good result. Your prime and paint the metal with a base color, like the specific tan for your year and model. They can tell you. You add the grain with water soluble ink. If you don’t like what you did, just wipe off with a wet rag and try again. It’s very forgiving. When you have the grain pattern the way you want it, let it dry a day. They spray with clear urethane. Sand after it dries a couple days and spray clear again. My journey with grading starts at Post #184 of the Duchess Project Blog.https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?start=180&topic_id=5878&order=ASC&status=&mode=0
I kind of got wrapped around the axle on getting the right pattern , so you might jump to post #233 to see the result.

Paint looks really nice after sanding and buffing. Just keep your eyes open and you'll come across some decent chrome bits on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. I was able to pick up a replacement rear bumper for cheap. It's nowhere near perfect, but far better than what I had.

How long did it take SMS to do the seat covers? And did you have to send your originals in to them? I'm looking at options for getting mine redone.

And now from 1938 to 1931 and a motorcycle trade magazine. Ironically the image here is of a Studebaker exhibit about their freewheeling feature on Studebaker automobiles.

Remember our discussion of coaster brakes and freewheeling on bicycles a while back in this thread? Well, it seems that Studebaker actually used bicycles in an automotive exhibit they did to explain the technology and principle of freewheeling in automobiles.

Courtesy of National Bicycle History Archive of America (NBHAA.com)... take a look...

Refinishing the Dash
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Now that I have the dash remove I need to decide how refinish the dash. My Car is not intended to be a show car but a driver i can be proud of. My options are to have it wood grained, paint it or consider hydrographic. In my case cost is a factor and is in conflict with having it look good and being original. My first choice is to have it wood grained and painting doesn't seem to be the right thing.
I am interested in knowing of a source that can do the wood graining reasonably and what alternatives I should consider. I am also interested in know about the potential of doing hydrographic finishes.

Happy to report that the Dash has been removed thank to the help I got from the forum responses. Removing the nuts from both end of the dash was essential and the light switch removal was very helpful.
Thanks very much for all the Help.
