My first bout with vapor lock.

Waiting to get into the car show. Temp gauge went to middle. I started turning off the engine.

Went to go start it. Try and die. So left it. Pulled air cleaner

No fuel would squirt .

Walked in car show. Waited maybe an hr. Started up.

I was 22 in line.
When I drove in 62.

It was odd other cars were having fuel problems..guess I need and electric pump.

Of course I was the only Packard..

That makes the most sense. I'm going to review the all the settings and see if something is off, it wouldn't take much.

Watching PBS Passport Classic Movie "Topper Takes a Trip", I saw a pretty rare 1939 Packard Darrin.
mktx.com/packard/TopperTrip39Darrin.MOV
It appears to have a 1940 grille, but 1939 headlights, unknown parking lights.

Went for a test drive to see if could get the DD to disengage after it had engaged, but no dice. I did go through all the linkages earlier this summer and set them as per the service manual, but I'm going to double check them. Maybe the throttle valve is not moving far enough to disengage the DD at "beyond full throttle."

These are the speeds my DD engages and disengages.

When slowing down, no throttle, it disengages around 13 mph.
With very light throttle it engages around 20 mph.
With medium throttle in engages around 40 mph.
With full throttle it engages around 51 mph.

Other than not kicking down, the transmission seems to be working as it should.

Appears to have an overdrive switch on the dash. Not sure what the switch next to the steering column is for. Looks like electromatic hardware under the hood.

Peter was or is the Australian Packard Club's tech editor.....Peter and Ann also have a collection of 25 or so ancient Sceptered Isle motorbikes....../quote]
Mike(su8overdrive),

Just a few minor, but probably unnecessary, corrections:
1) It's Canberra, not Canberry - And an answer to a trivia question to go with it - Like Washington DC is the Capital of the USA, Canberra is the Capital of Oz
2) At the last count Peter had over 20 Packards, the latest of which is a 1919 Twin Six he bought off another PACA member fairly recently. Peter has the disease in a bad way. Or is that a good way?
Click to see original Image in a new window

3) At one stage he and Ann had over 50 motorcycles. Was always talking about downsizing the collection. Maybe it finally happened? If it has, Noel(Tabletennissport here on PackardInfo) will be glad as he's spent many hours cleaning and polishng Peter's motorcyles for him. Noel mutters something about if he never sees another chrome wire wheel again it'll be too soon.
4) Peter's official position within PACA is Techical Officer not "tech editor", maybe I'm splitting hairs here, pedant that I can be.

Anyway, after all that, I encourage anyway who's able to attend the Art Deco Festival and/or the South Pacific Packards Rally to do so. I did in 2014, and is a fondly remembered memory of mine.

Dads 56
Thanks for the feedback HH56
I have manual windows so stress on the motor is not an issue,
I’m hoping to put the regulator in once my knee pain subsides
& see how much clearance there is.
Thanks for the lubrication recommendation also

I had to buy a whole yard of the material to match what I had, & used just a sliver of it
So will have lots for when or if it wears out in my lifetime
