Re: Best Road Trips for Packards & More
Home away from home
Home away from home

55PackardGuy
Just to clarify that I took a number of road trips in an actual Packard, here's one from da woods in Northern Minnesota. A nice 200 mile jaunt that put us at a resort on Pelican lake, perfect for fishing and drowning worms--in the rain.

That's my brother Tony in the cap, I'd say about 10 year old, and the figure half swallowed by the trunk is my dad, Tony, Unloading the family Clipper. He's probably digging out the outboard motor we took along so we could just rent a little fishing boat, and not have to drag anything.

All of you here could affirm that the Packard trunk has ample room for an outboard motor, tackle boxes and several pieces of luggage to boot (hey, I made another funny). In my recollection, we never filled the trunk, and of course all that weight in the back, including two kids in the back seat presented no problem for a level riding TL suspension.

Ah memories, lovingly preserved in immortal black-and-white using a 4 x 5 Kodak bellows camera! Still have it, too.

Re: 1956 Build Slip Codes
Home away from home
Home away from home

55PackardGuy
This thread was mentioned by Brian over on the Hood Ornaments thread, and I wanted to bump it to the top and make sure knowledge about the various build codes and the availability of Brian's work on PDF on this site.

Also, I'd like to put in 2? on the high speed equipment mentioned. It would make sense for it to be offered on senior sedans for police pursuit cars and other professional vehicles, like someone mentioned the FBI. There's such a dearth of information on any V8 professional cars, but I imagine there was a market worth pursuing (hey, I made a funny) for Packard because they had the biggest V8s at the time, and also a suspension that could take high-speed bumps and corners better than any other full-sized car around.

We know of at least one police car Patrician, mikec's. I wonder if there are records of sales of V8 Packards for professional use.

That said, the description of the Exec with documentation for factory installed dual carb 374 and manual transmission, I just have this to say:

I want it!

G'day redneckatw247.
to PackardInfo. I invite you to add your '56 Clipper Deluxe to the Owner Registry together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it.

Because the car has been sitting for 40 years be very careful about how you go starting it up and stopping it! Plenty of good sensible advice here from Packard people who have been there and done that.

Like the pic's you've posted, shows a good solid foundation for your project. Keep 'em coming and, I'll look forward to seeing it progress.

Original 352 engine. I do have the carb, and air cleaner. Took the carb off and going to soak it in diesel for a while, see if I can unfreeze it. But everything's here!

dash is in wonderful condition. I'm not sure, but the odometer could be showing original miles being only 10 years old and was once used for the dept of public safety. Yes its an Ultramatic.
