Well, you have certainly helped me. I have never even heard of "friends and family" and would have been fooled as well. I know I am showing my naiveness, but what is friends and family and why does a impostor use it? I am also very leery of cash apps and digital currency transfers. Sorry to hear that you were lied to, wish I could help.

Your best bet would be to contact Pertronix directly as they know their products and they have good customer support both before and after a sale. It's possible that they sent the incorrect kit or perhaps your distributor has been changed at some point with a different type.

Update. I have a 2nd engine (that I bought for the cylinder block) that I verified the Cam in it, is bone stock original. It checks out at all points noted in the Cam shaft timing specifications.

So, What I'm learning is, the guy/Mechanic that took the money from the wealthy Dr. (Surgeon) who paid to bring this car to very high point standard, modified the cam to what the mechanic thought would be better than what the Packard Engineers, after all their background, testing and training, could have done.

I have other post on here about the other bright ideas the mechanic thought were acceptable rebuild protocols. I have receipts for about 10K in 1991 when this overrated engine builder stole from the Dr.

So, be sure to know your engine rebuilder and if he's a bail wire and duct repair guy or a master mechanic.

Well at least it lasted about 7k miles and 30 years.

Your '58 should have a Delco distributor. There should be a Delco tag on the distributor body with the model number on it, it will be a 7 digit number. I've attached a picture of a similar Delco distributor showing the tag. The 7 digit number will start at the left side of the tag.

Once we have that number, we will know for sure what distributor you have.

I will say that Pertronix's website is well known for having the Studebaker (and thus the '57/'58 Packard) applications screwed up.

On this part of the Pertronix online catalog here: Pertronix 11584, the catalog says its for a '58 Studebaker 8 cylinder but also says its for a Prestolite. That could not be, because the Prestolite was not used on the V8 until 1962.

Once we have your distributor number, maybe we can figure this out.

In addition to removing the four nuts from the heater studs in the engine bay you will also have to remove the radio and speaker, if you have one. There are also a dozen or so fasteners that attach the dash pad to the fire wall (remove from engine bay by compressing and pushing inward). If needed you can purchase new dash pad fasteners from Restoration Specialties. I purchased my firewall sound deadener insulation pad from Collectorsautosupply,Inc. excellent product and excellent fit. I suggest that you also install additional sound deadening self adhesive pads on firewall, floorboard and inside doors. I purchased mine from Eastwood. You mentioned that you may want to install a new wiring harness - I would recommend Paul Little at Harness Unlimited - excellent product.

Electronic Ignition Kit

Rollerball
Hello!

I'm looking at installing a electronic ignition for my 58 Packard . I ordered a kit from Petroxnix but it's not fitting the distributor . Anyone had this issue ?

Website said "1584" would fit .

The first pic shows the two mounting holes for the points to mount to but the pertronix unit does not line up to the holes.

I'm not familiar with the brand of my distributor can anyone tell me what I have ???

Thanks !

On my '32 901 I lined the entire inside including the top (firewall excepted) with a bubble foil insulation from Lowe's. Made patterns out of paper to cut the insulation. I used 3M spray adhesive to glue it in place.

For the firewall I opted for using a black dense cardboard material with a leather grain. I used cardboard to cut a pattern.

FYI - On my '70 Vette I lined the interior with the bubble (walls, floor, firewall & area behind the seats. I lowered the noise & heat by 50%, which is why I decided to do the interior of the '32 with it.

Gary (56PKRDGUY), no, that wasn't your fault. You have apparently fallen victim to a fraudster. Heads up!
