thank you........big time!

Do those circuit breakers reset on their own? Do you know.

After quite a while sitting, I turned the key and heard like a fuse going. I'm assuming it was one of those breakers on the backside of the instrument panel.

Looks like I've got a lot of old frayed wire to replace.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for my 52 Packard 300. My manual has one in it, but it says it's for a 24th series, and doesn't seem to say anywhere if it's the same as the 25th series. So...........I'm looking.

any help appreciated. I did search the forums.

Here goes.......

Apparently the image I sent of my Right Rear brake components is somewhat how they should be!

In the picture I've included -

Item A is a Bearing, Oil Guard per the Packard Parts manual. This Item A was on my LRear wheel with Item D pressed into the back of it. There was no Item C on my LRear wheel, and there should've been one.

Now, Item B was on my RRear wheel and did have Item C behind it separated by a Oil Guard gasket. This is correct per the Packard Parts Manual.

Through learning this, my Packard will now have the correct seals and Bearing Guards as per the manual. The only thing, is that I should've had the same Bearing Oil Guard on both wheels.

Thanks to all for your input! :)

The Seal retainer is the part that the seal is pressed into. I am referring to the outer seal of course. When I get this one cleaned up, I will post a picture of the 2 different types of seal retainers I've come across on the rear. Plus a pic of the seal that I'm told is proper for my year Packard. Which I have already purchased.

Hi all,

Just got the RRear hub off. And, I might add it only took me 9 major whacks with a 4# hammer. Since I knew I had to REALLY lean into it, it happened faster.

Anyhow, I've included pic of the components immediately after I took the drum off. The Seal Retainer looks nothing like the one I have to replace it, plus looks nothing like the one that came off the LRear. The Lrear was also different.

I'm guessing they're from other models. Anybody have any idea?

Hey Guys! Thanks for all the responses and suggestions.

After 3 hours of tightening and hitting it finally came loose. It didn't POP as I was expecting. I can now see why it's such a ^&^*%*(^$*%$ to get loose. It's a fairly long taper. Long of surface area to break free. Anyhow, I am moving forward now, cleaning everything up etc. Took a few pics before I started disassembling it. Have the shoes ready and all new hardware. Going to replace the centrally located brake hose and make two new lines to each brake. Going to order some new seals and replace those while I'm in there!

This was the drivers side rear. Next week hopefully I'll get to the passenger side rear, and just maybe have it one the road soooooon!

Subject: removing rear brake drums
52 300 sedan

Here's where I'm at and what I've tried. I have the exact puller that is supposed to be used for this job. Same as picture from this website.

I have been using Liquid Wrench, PB Blaster. I have the Nut and washer backed off enough so it can come off partially. I have made sure the E brake is NOT on. I have made sure the rear shoes have been backed off.

I have been now for the past 3 hours, hitting it to tighen it, then hitting the center shaft just about as hard as I can with a 4# hammer.

It sure the heck doesn't seem to be moving to me. Any help or suggestions appreciated. Drastic measures are starting to go through my mind!

NOTE: I can NOT drive it anywhere as it DOES NOT have any brakes!!

Thanks for the responses. I will let you know what happens. :)

The brakes were toast when I bought the vehicle and not driveable, so loosening the nut idea is out. Although, that one would probably work with less sweat!

Other suggestions duly noted. Only have a 16oz hammer, so I think I'll be heading to the store to get a 4 Lb. one.

thanks again for the responses!

Hi all,

I posted a couple weeks ago regarding the proper puller for getting my rear drums off. Well, I purchased a puller and have been trying for several days in a row now to get the drum off. I work every day, so I come home and give it a few hits and nothing happen'in yet. I just soaked around the spindle area in front with Liquid wrench and hope maybe tomorrow I can get one of these off.

Any tips or suggestions from any of you on how you got yours off would be helpful.
My Packard is a 52 300 sedan.
