Thank you sir. The brake is very firm. Almost like it is stuck. I will check the vacuum and see if the problem is there. Thanks again.

brake question

I have replaced the BTV, installed new lines, bled the brake lines. My question is when I press the "Easamatic" brake it doesn't press so easily. It is very firm and only about 1/4" of play in the brake pedal. Is this normal? I don't have anything to compare to so I'm not sure.

Brake problem

Hello everyone. So I bought a refurbished power brake about 3 months ago and hooked it up, bled the lines and it worked fine. The car sat for 3 months while we did some engine work and today when I put it in gear the brake was stuck. The engine just started running after sitting for years and it just now got vacuum. Any thoughts? I'm going to bleed the breaks again and see if that fixes it but could it possibly be a bad bendix refurb unit?

I am restoring a 1954 Cavalier. I finally got the engine started today which was a major accomplishment! Except I have no oil pressure! I guess I'll tackle the oil pump next but before I do does anyone have any words of advice?

Thanks Howard. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong. On my 54 it has a braided ground wire mounted to the side of the water pump and a large gauge wire to the starter. I just assumed it was a negative ground system. How can I be for sure? I pulled this car out of a field and it didn't have a battery inside so I never had anything for comparison. Would it hurt to ground the positive terminal of the battery to the braided ground and the negative to the large cable going to the starter? In my head this sounds catastrophic lol but then again I've never had a positive ground vehicle. This is my first 6V system and I'm learning as I go. Thanks for the info!

Distributer question 1954 Cavalier

This may be a novice question but My father and I have replaced the engine in my 1954 Cavalier. We are close to getting it started as it will hit but not start yet. We are going over all the wires and noticed the distributer turns counter clockwise. After reviewing a wiring diagram for the 54th series it shows that it has a positive ground. This 1954 Cavalier we are working on had a negative ground system. My question is did some 1954 Cavalier cars have a negative ground and others as positive ground? I'm wondering if you have the grounds switched will the starter turn the motor the opposite way? And finally which way is the distributer supposed to turn, clockwise or counter clockwise. Mine is currently turning counter clockwise. Hope this makes sense. Thanks guys.

Is anyone familiar with how the stainless trim is removed from the front and rear windshields? Is it a big deal to remove and leave the windshield intact? thanks in advance.

Starter question

Hey everyone. I hope you can help me with some advice. I am restoring a 1954 Cavalier. I have the motor back in the car. It has new points, wires, condenser, rotor button and plugs. It has compression. It is getting fuel and there is fire. It still won't start. My question is related to the starter. I'm wondering if it is not turning fast enough. I don't have a comparison so I don't know. It turns slow but do all the 6 volt starters turn slow? Just trying to figure out why this thing won't start and wondering if the starter is bad. It sat up in a field for 35 years. Thanks for any help.

I honestly don't know what it's a condenser for. There is one in the distributor next to the points. I'm not referring to this one. This particular one I'm talking about is another condenser mounted on the coil. It was originally wired to the negative terminal on the coil. This engine has not been started since 1975. I'm trying to bring it back to life. Replacing all condensers and points because I'm getting really weak fire. I'm just not sure I had this particular condenser ( the external one) connected to the right place on the coil.
