Hey everyone,
I'm rebuilding the starter, a Delco Remy 1107943, and I was just wondering as to what kind of lubricant I should use for shaft bushings? Thanks!

vibration dampener question

My '49 has a 1954 327 engine in it. The timing cover plates were all changed over to accommodate the early style front motor mount. I noticed when I started working on the engine that the vibration dampener/ pulley rubs on the motor mount. I thought at first it was because they reused the rubber mounting pads, but after replacing them with new ones and reinstalling the mount, the dampener still rubs on the mount. Did the later engines use a larger diameter pulley/ dampener or am I missing something? Thanks!

yes, it appears to have been rebuilt by the previous owner. The pistons are marked .030 and the cylinders have cross hatching with little to no wear. the exhaust valves are new as are all of the valve springs. The valve chamber is completely cleaned and primed as well. The surface of the block has also been machined. I haven't removed the pan but I'm pretty sure the bearings have been replaced as well. I actually like the Packard green better but I've been told that gray is the correct color for this engine. I want to try and be as correct as possible.

I had the same thing happen last week on my 49 327 after torquing. I used the spray on sealer and I'm sure its just excess sealer leaking out. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. Mine was leaking at the rear corner of the head.

electromatic clutch questions

Hi all! I have some questions about the electromatic clutch. First, it was an option right? Second, how long was it used by packard? The reason I ask is my '49 looks like it was equipped with it but I am missing quite a few pieces for it. Also, my car has a 327 from a '53 clipper in it,so i was wondering if that year engine is compatible with the electromatic clutch? I would also get anyones input if it's worth the time and money to try and track down the parts to make a complete unit, or if it's better to remove whats there and run without it? As always, any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!!

Thank you for the info! I actually have two complete instrument clusters. On the one for my car, the paint luminous paint is coming off, but the spare unit is still in pretty good shape. I may try experimenting on the worse of the two. Thanks again!!

Could someone explain to me how the instrument panel lights work? I thought I read somewhere that they used black light. I looked at my panel and it looks like they use regular incandescent bulbs, but I also see they mount into some kind of dark lens? Any info would be great! Thanks!
