question about modern paint match

Has anybody had any luck matching paints from 1941/1942? I'm looking for a modern paint equivalent for the colors of Silver French Gray Metallic and Puritan Gray Metallic. And what type of paint did you use? Single or double stage? Thanks

1941 Clipper hubcap question
Home away from home
Home away from home

I've got a question on the correct hubcaps. I've seen 2 different styles on '41 Clippers. The first is 10" across and fits over the lug nuts. This is the one I see on the factory photographs and other 1941 models. I've also seen a much larger hubcap that covers most of the wheel and has a completely flat surface across the face of the cap. The owners of both styles say that their cap is correct. Was the larger hubcap 1) an option, 2) brought out later in the production run or 3) just a 1942 style ?

Just to throw a monkey wrench into the discussion. If for some reason you stay with a 6 volt system but want an alternator contact Don at gener-nators. He takes a stock generator and builds a custom alternator inside. They work great, solve all the problems of a generator not charging at idle and look completely stock

An original car can be driven reliably if in good shape. I drove my car (an unrestored 1954 Cavalier) with a 327 engine to the 2016 Nationals in Travese City with no issues. Each way was over 500 miles in 90+ degree heat. Drove home in ten hours including stops for fuel and food. Reliability should not be an excuse for swapping the engine, but good luck in what ever you decide.

JD, It's a factory color. You'll see it if you look at a 1950 paint chart. My friend I spoke of has a 1950 Super Eight with that color. His car is a survivor and has not been touched. It's my favorite color of that year.

I believe it's Argentine Grey Metallic--- my friend has the same color--not seen too often, but a nice color

Hi Ross, Sorry I didn't get down to your garage last week. I could really use some front end sheet metal. I would take both front fenders and all inner liners and splash pans if you part out for my 1941. I still need to get my engine /tranny assembly down to you that I emailed you about a couple of months ago. I'll try by end of September. Thanks George
