From experience (a great educator) I'd replace all of the old wax type capacitors while you are in there.

You can give Studebaker International a call or try your local NAPA store.

Randy, you're my Ives-Packard hero!
If your computer is a little damp, it's me drooling!
I think my Mrs. Is getting me a set from 1926. I don't know which set other than its a 3242r with brass plates and 180 series passenger cars.
Will let you know details when she presents it to me.

Well, another Christmas is rolling up on us.
Only three or so months to go. I asked Santa for my first Ives Wide gauge train set. An Ives 3242r with brass inserts (attention Randy) That's going to happen , thank you honey, er Santa!
Don't know if the 1941 Packard convertible coupe is going to happen but, I keep asking none the less. Hope it happens before I'm too old to drive it!

No hurry just like to know body numbers. Whenever you get around to looking is fine.
My 57 body number is 649, the lowest number I've found is number 76.
But, that car was very, very, rough. In fact it may have gone to China. Sad to say.

Hi 57ClipperWagon! And welcome to the Packard forum!
Any questions or needs you can ask here and over to the Studebaker forum folks.
Glad you registered your Packard here, what body number is your car?
On tag under hood on passenger side.
Good luck with her!

Another vote for Shell Rotella!
Use it in all my cars and truck.
Using it in my 57 Packard, with freshly rebuilt engine.

Bill Clay
Useless information is fun and interesting information.
Your original Packard owner most likely as previously mentioned, worked his way up to Packard ownership.
His first car may have been a second hand Chandler or EMF. Then a new Ford T or Chevrolet or even a Studebaker! Then by progression a Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile and finally a bright shinny new Packard!

On my 1957 Packard wagon , I had the same issue with the loose sloppy steering. While I had the engine out I replaced everything and adjusted the steering box.
Replaced center pin and bushings, tie rods, coil springs, king pins, the works.
