any advice on auto. storage in humid climate???
Home away from home
Home away from home

I am checking in to get some advice about storing my 52/200 in the wet humid climate in Hilo, hawaii.????
I bought my car last July. Now i am gearing up to build a storage building/garage for my car. I am on a budget , so i will do most of the work myself. I already have a 10x22' slab which i will use. I will add another 6' at the rear for tool storage etc.
My question is what can i do to help the car against all the moisture here in hawaii and the humidity.????
I am willing to insulate and wall board the garage. what about ventilation,: like a fan or?????
I know dehumidifiers are expensive to run.
would a small a/c unit from home depot remove enough moisture????
What do other guys do in humid , wet climates.???
thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a 52/200. there is no flocking noticable in my trunk. perhaps a bit up against the back seat. i do have what appears to be the original cardboard type mat on top. I would love to see pics of some finished trunks and how they look. thanks

thanks for the advice. yes, i plan to check what you mentioned mr grubbs.
i re did the timing yesterday and the car starts right up like it should. so that is good.
i also learned that i don't have the output on the generator that HH56 described. so that is another issue.
when i drove the car yesterday around my neighborhood when i got her up to say 40mph she started runing real rough.
so i have more work to do. when i got back after the drive i re checked the timing and it was right on.
so when i have time i will review and study and go back to square 1 !. this is all new to me. when i was a kid i would ask my grandfather or my cousin who was a retired mechanic for chrysler. but they are all gone .
also the exhaust gaskets don't sound good at all.

one more thing:
the specific issue is that when i try and start the car it does sound like the batt is weak because the starter does not turn fast; like ther isn't enough juice to operate it. and when the key switch is turned to the left it sounds perfect.
thanks

starting my 52/200

Hello;
I have been working on a minor tune up on my 52/200. had some trouble, but got everything back together. HH56 answered some ? for me and a mechanic friend stoped by and helped me.
while i did this job i cleaned and tightened every wire i could think of ..... any wires to do with the starter, distrib, generator, and voltage reg.
when the mechanic came by he set the timing and we started the car. he adjusted the carb and was very happy. the car did sound better than b 4, but now we noticed an exhaust issue . like an exh. manifold gasket. ok , so that is the next project.
the mechanic thought my batt. was low by the sound of the car when starting. my volt. meter registered exactly 6 volts. my mechanic insisted the batt is low. so i have had the batt on trickle charge for several hours. the mechanic hooked my car up to his jump starter(12 volts) I was afraid , but he said no auxilary electrical on & a quick turn off when my car starts would not hurt anything.
what is strange now is that when i start the car it does sound like the batt is weak. and after the charge it registers over 6 volt on the meter. BUT WHEN I TURN the key to the left or auxilary and try ant start it sounds perfect.
andy advice???
thanks in advance
could the 12 volt jump starter have damaged something.?

this engine # sure is a mystery. i have read all that has been written here and found the engine # PDF, and yes the 'M' is in 1954.......
now i will go find the date the block was cast . that will be interesting to find.
the good news is i had help figuring out the timing and distrib. etc and the car started this morning and sounded good. timing set/ it is so gratifying to get the car runing well after i finish a project..... t o hear the sound of the enginge is exciting. wow.

thanks for your advice.

i am still not sure about the M, and i still think i am 2 digits short of the full #. but this is the best i can see.
it just makes me curious to know. and i should perhaps find the date the engine was made and compare with the other info i have on the car.

for quite some time i have been trying to decipher the engine # on my 52/200. i have wire brushed, sand paper, and chalk. my car has auto trans. does this # make sense?
M344377H
i believe the # should start with J4 , but i don't see that no matter how hard i try.
Does the H mean i have hydrolic lifters....?
the packard record keep-er told me to get the production slip off the top of the glove box.... wow it is so so fragile i did not want to force it. any advice on how to do this. ????
thanks for all your input in advance.
tim
