I think you are coming down the home streach.Seems you are related to Murphy (As in murphys law. (I am too.))I also suffer from what I call the "glee" factor.(Too much excitement at the end of a project.) That is of course when I make a simple mistake and it takes me forever to back track to that spot.In my case the glee factor normally bites me with some thing silly I have overlooked,Or put in wrong.Beware! Unfortunately I don't have specs for your motor .020 seems a bit fat.I wouldn't think there is that much difference from my 51 327. witch is .017 my dwell angle is 21-30 degrees.time for a Packard 10 point tune up.Pretty odd. Brian

By good spark I assume you used a spark tester,or at the very least bare wire to block. The spark must jump at least 1/8 inch. The spark MUST be blue not yellow.Seeing grounded spark plugs spark proves nothing. Also take the points out and check them, they could be badly pitted. They might look good in place but could hide a mack truck between the contacts. Yeah, those points are fried.Put new ones in if ya got them.Still wont prove spark however.Do that and you have no spark issue.(Spark check that is.)And yes that will account for the hard starting.(pitted points that is.) Brian

Or a bare wire to block test should tell the story as well.Put a piece of metal in a spark plug boot and see if it will jump at least 1/8 inch or better. If not you have a Bad coil.Would explain why your spark plugs look wet too. Brian

I hate to throw a wrench in anything BUT. Spark at the plugs OUTSIDE the cylinders means little,At best your plugs are good. But will it jump gap under pressure? You need a spark tester. The only way to know for sure.Unless I have missed something you haven't proved that yet.Better check that before you go too far in an other direction. Sanford,I know you said the points measured correctly,But if there has not been any service for a while how do you know they are not pitted? I have seen points that LOOKED good only to find I could have hidden a VW bug in the unseen cavity in the points. If nothing else run some 500 grit paper thru them. Not the best way but she might wake up. Their are two areas to check,Check below the headlights, there is a shelf that will hold mud ect.If that is not rusted the odds are good with the rest of the car.The rockers are also a rust trap. The photos look pretty good except the rear of course. In my narrow view there is nothing like a Packard. My guess is If you buy it and go through it,it will be your favorite.
