that's not police work on traffic safety, that's revenue collection.

Gasoline, being a blend or mixture like other distilled products, does not have a single boiling point - there is a cumulative curve of how much of the total vaporizes at what temperature over a wide temperature range. The weight vs temp is a S-shaped curve

Re: Packard Blue Metallic 1948

Agate and Coronet are medium slate blue. Be very careful in using modern colors - modern paints tend to use larger and more metallic flakes and "travel" more (change with viewing angle or lighting). The original colors used fine metallic. That said there are some excellent matches available (I've found the 41 colors I needed). I looked at 22nd series colors a while ago, and the hue of Packard Blue is achievable (it is quite dark) but the flake was the trick to an authentic match. If you find the right size you may want it mixed with a little less flake (this will also make the color look darker)
Also, I commend the use of the old mixing formula in a prior post here as a way of understanding the color, NOT how to pigment paint now. Real smart post. The printed chip charts are pretty much useless as color standards

actually, the newer dual dry clutch, no clutch pedal transmissions combine many advantages of both manual and auto, but that's a conversion way beyond my contemplation!

out of curiousity, I understand first hand the foibles of the Packard column shifter (mine fell out of 2nd yesterday on a bump), but what advantage do you see to an automatic? We're all big boys (and girls) here and know how to shift, after all.

One choice that will affect the end result - original wool broadcloth headliners have no sheen like polyester blends. Real wool is still available (fabric shops as well as restoration supplies). It costs more but the different is noticeable. See both and choose what suits you.

love the alternate ornament.
I'm sure this has to do with the European pedestrian safety law. I would check if it is proper to apply it retroactively to your Packard. If he insists, take off the ornament, get the permit, and put it back on when you get home.

the color is just a dye. What's in the blue and green versions (both are glycol-based)?

To be a little picky, Neoprene is a brand name for a type of rubber (polychloroprene). The chlorine improves the resistance to some solvents. Petroleum solvents don't normally dissolve vulcanized rubbers, but will usually swell them. Nitrile rubber is normally used for gasoline resistant parts. Cork is used in alcohol storage because you want it to swell to make a good seal - that's why you store wine bottles on their sides. The other important factor is the temperature the gasket will see.
