Re: 2301 generator

That is definitely an Autolite generator in the picture. The GJC 7002 is not a Packard application generator, but shouldn't be an issue unless your going for original. Just don't order parts based on application. Also, the GJC 7002 is a 12 volt generator. What parts are you needing? I should be able to help you.

Autolite did become Prestolite.

FYI, dis-connecting the battery while the car is running is not a good way to check the generator. It can actually create a voltage spike and damage other components in the electrical system.

Assuming you are dealing with a local auto electric shop, I would take the generator and regulator to the local shop and have them tested together as on the car, 6 volt positive ground. If both check ok, I'd ignore the ammeter and get a volt meter to check the voltage. Report back and we can try and help you from there. Feel free to contact me if you want.

I'm here and open for business. I've updated my website in the directory. I'm not sure why the original link didn't work, but I changed it and it works now.

I'm not sure by reading the postings on whether or not you are emailing me or someone else? To clarify, I have not received any emails from you. Please contact me if you are in fact emailing me without getting a response back. My email is jason@aerrebuild.com and you can also call me toll-free at 1-866-228-0218.

Thanks,
Jason

Larry,
Here's the scoop on getting that drive off the shaft. I'm assuming you have the starter apart and removed the armature with drive from the drive end housing. There is a set screw (should be slotted) on the drive opposite the gear end. You may need to pull the drive barrel/sleeve forward to unscrew the screw out far enough. This screw goes in to a hole on the armature shaft. You should be able to slide the drive off once the screw is backed out far enough. There's also a key in there, sometimes they hang up a little on the key. Just give it a tunk with a rubber hammer and it should slide off. If you're not sure the you have the screw backed out enough, you can take it all the way out. It won't hurt anything, just makes it harder to get it back in if you're re-using the drive.
If it's still confusing, give me a call or maybe I can post a picture of the drive pointing out the parts I'm referring to.

Lauren,
I don't believe I have a replacement solenoid in stock ready to go, but I can rebuild yours. Give me a call and I'll see if I can help your troubleshooting and then discuss possibly having to rebuild yours.

Just an FYI to others looking for V12 parts. I was able to supply Robert with the ignition parts he needed. I still have caps , points and rotors available. Cap covers are very limited and will be tough to supply soon. Feel free to contact me with any electrical (starter, generator, distributor, etc.) parts request.

I realized it was kind of rude to leave a post that sent people to another forum, so here is my response:

"I may or may not be able to help you/supply exactly what you are looking for. I can supply an alternator with a universal generator to alternator bracket kit that would install relatively easy w/o any major fab work, just nuts and bolts. I would need to know specifics on your pulley before I promised an exact match. I would need to know diameter and pulley width. Feel free to contact me if you'd like any more details or have any additional questions. I can email you pictures of the bracket kit if you would like. Email me if interested."

Sorry about the earlier reply.
