I went ahead and did the side grill replacement on my 1941 120/110.

You can get at the side grill retaining bolts by removing the lower filler pan that extends from the radiator to the front of the car. Once that is removed it is a clear shot to either side grill. The upper grill bolts are a stretch but it can be done. Total time to do one side was 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I'm getting ready to replace one of the side grills with new chrome. What is the best way to remove a 41 Packard 120 side grill?
Thanks for any help offered.

Regards,

Rob Troxel

Just picked up the 41 110 Sedan. Will get caught up with all the cars on the registry soon.

Meanwhile thanks to all for the great suggestions on hard starting. We don't think it is a perculation problem. Carb was rebuilt and pass all the diagnostics suggested here. Starts great cold. What we have found it that if you depress the gas once when warm, it seems to start better. We will try the condesor/ coil replacement next.

Thanks for all the input so far. We are getting the timing checked, putting on a new coil and condensor, putting in new plugs too. The fuel ine seems to be sufficently away from the exhaust manifold though I think we might add an insulation jacket ion the line for good measure. I'll check the heat riser though I don't recall seeing it before.

That's a thought Big Kev. Used the proper mounting gaskets.

How would you determine if peculation is the issue?

This car starts great when cold. So far the carburator has been rebuilt, an Auxillary electric fuel pump was added to the fuel system. Added two 6 volt Optima batteries in parallel and replaced all the battery cables.

Car reluctantly starts when warm (within 5 minutes of shutdown) about 50% of the time and requires at least one pump of the gas pedal when it does start. If the car sets 20 minutes, no problem.

Could this be a timing issue? Too much advance? Choke is working as intended and is in the open position when warm.
Should we replace the coil snd condensor?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks
Rob Troxel
