My friend had new brakes installed on his 56 Patrician. The mechanic checked the fluid in the differential. He said there was a quite of bit of pressure built up when he removed the cap so he suggested my friend clean the vent. Was under the car saturday and could not locate it.Does anyone know where it is?

Possible Trans problems?

Often when I start out in H on my 56 Patrician, the car has no power. The engine revs but the car moves out very slowly.Once in motion, everything seems to clear up and then it performs normally. If I put it in neutral at a long light and back into H, I get the same thing-not all of the time but better than 50%.Another issue is shuddering on hard acceleration. It goes away after a few seconds but is most disconcerting.Drive shaft etc have been checked and all appears to be OK.It has been suggested that my bands may need adjustment.Any thoughts.

I don't know what year Packard you have but I purchase Points, Condenser, rotor and Cap for my 48 and 56 Packards at the local NAPA store.

My understanding is that it was standard on the Custom in In 195655 and optional on all other Clipper models. In 1956,I believe it was standard on all models except the basic "DeLuxe" model.

Its strange. Why would you want to put a Straight 8 in a 56 Packard when you can take your pick of any straight 8 from 1924 to 1954.I see people on this Web sight (and I will not mention Eric's name) that hate BTV, Drum brakes,Twin Ultramatic, Packard V8 oil pump and they drive a V8 Packard. If they hate them so much, why not buy a 57 DeSoto Fireflite with a hemi that already has Torqflite and a good oil pump and PB system?

I am not saying it is a bad engine.I am saying that by 1937 Luxury cars had given it up.Pierce kept it into the late 20s and probably caused them to go into bankruptcy (thank God Studebaker save them). As far as the argument that Packard used them in earlier years-yes.It was the big engine of the day.But to compare a Dominant Six to the 1937 six is like comparing a Hemi to a Model T ford engine.

Curtis Wright took over the Utica Plant. They converted it to aircraft engine production which was no big deal as Packard was making Jet engines up until the time Engine Charlie Wilson decided that it would be better to consolidate Government contracts for construction with just one supplier.Gee.I wonder why he chose GM?

Most Packard people I know, consider the Packard six (115C and 110s)to be less than Packards. They are considered undesirable mistakes of a once great company.I have driven a 1939 110 and found it to be quite adequate up to about 55 MPH.At that point, it was screaming. Maybe it is better with OD.One should note that the Packard six put out 100 HP at a time that the ford V8 put out 85.So my question to the panel-Is a 110-115C really a Packard?

My understanding is that all 56 Packard Clipper tail light lenses will fit 57 and 58 Packards
