If you have an A.E.A.(Automotive Electric Association) catalog of original equipment service parts, you can identify which internal items like field coils, armatures, brush holders and the like are identical in AutoLite units made for Packard and those made for Chrysler and others.

These are really handy catalogs to have and if you see one for sale at a reasonable price, snap it up. Just looking at the cover of my 36-42 issue, it covers units and service parts of American Bosch, AutoLite, Briggs & Stratton, Carter, Delco, Delcy-Remy, Eclipse-Bendix, Edison-Splitdorg, Eisemann, Electric Auto-Lite, Fairbanks-Morse, Guide Lamp Div., King-Seeley, Leece-neville, Marvel-Schebler, Norma-Hoffmann, Packard Cable, Purolator, Steward-Warner, Stromberg, Trico and Wico Electric.

Great for example for finding the original Trico motor, arm and blade numbers, etc.

Well there you go.. Maybe it's just a case of some parts fit and some don't.

On the surface it looks funky however sources that I have inquired of indicate that the Chrysler corp bought their distributors from the same company as Packard. I know for a fact that 1 packard in our club has a generator that also says "Chrysler" on it.

AL, I have a parts car 1947 Custom Super Clipper and the generator on this car has a Chrysler Corporation label as well. Not an original part but it fits the bracket and is also manufactured by Autolite.

Recently there was also a Chrysler tailight described as a '57 Packard. He has since corrected the error. What really rattles my chains is when a seller describes a Packard hood cormorant as a "swan." eeeeeeeeh :( I've been known to point their error out to them!

It's also possible the poster has multiple parts for sell and just mixed up the pictures.
