The only reason that Caddy and Buick were able to stay around during the early 30's of the Great Depression was
CHEVY. Also to some extent Pontiac and Oldsmobile carried GM though the depression.

If it wouldn't have been for the profit GM was making from Chevy through the first part of the great depression Buick would have been gone for sure. GM was going to keep Caddy afloat during those hard times, no matter how much it cost them.

G'day Dave,

Know it's but can you add your Packard/s to the Owner Registry together with pic/s, any known history and how it/they were acquired?

its actually happened to two of my vehicles. the first time it was my old cummins, and it just leaked a few drips now and then. the dart was a steady stream. the car had the old 225 leaning tower of power, so the fuel pump was right near the distributer.

i sold the dart to make room for the Packard. i didnt want to, but i nneeded the space. I love mopars, at least untill the early 70s, then not again till the 89 dodge/cummins rigs were introduced. I have a 91and love it.

sorry to hijack the thread......

Kev, I'm looking at the pictures of your restoration and I have to say that the work looks great. Your work couldn't be of any higher quality. Makes me want to go out and rip the front clip off my 51.

I know what your saying though, and my past project (66 dodge dart) still had a mechanical pump and it never gave me trouble, except when the old one cracked and started spraying fuel onto the distributer. that was scary.

Never had one split open. Must have been an experience. Do you still have the dart? I have never been a fan of the 70's and up Chrysler products. I have had two 55 Desoto's. They were great cars with a small 291 hemi engine. I did inherit my dad's 1973 charger. Nice body but the car is so thin and tinny I would not have bought it myself. BTW the Dodge is and will stay stock right down to it's 318 and I guess a torqueflight trans. The wheel covers are stock as well.

Lots of the better parts stores used to have a press in the back & they would do that kind of stuff for a small fee. Maybe that was when lawyers were non existent & real parts people manned the place instead of HS kids, but possibly worth an ask at one of the older places.

Kev,

If you know someone or someplace that has a press, you could have the seal pressed out, a new one pressed in, and that would probably be the only part of the rebuild you could not do. Unless, of course, the shaft is pitted. Then you would need a machine shop.

Just a thought.

Re: 1936 Packard 120 Trunk Rack and Trunk

Thanks Guys, great info from everyone. I see that the 37 accessories brochure is posted as well and i have lifted a photo of the 36 120B installation i seek. A couple of items are apparent to me, please correct me if i am wrong-
1)The 36 120B stock, bowtie, rear bumper guards must be moved outward and not replaced with shortys....or the trunk will overtravel.

2) The prop rod is a safety rod to ensure the trunk does not come back, even tho it is logically overcenter.

3) I am not sure what keeps the "rack trunk" from flopping. What holds it down? What keeps the prop rod from rattling?

So, I am still wanting to see actual 35,36,37 120ABC rack trunk installations. Any chance anybody has knowledge of such a rare accessory occurence?
thank you
Craig

PS - i just thought of something.......maybe the "prop rod" is really a "hook rod"
