They just ran a story on the NBC affiliate here that a participant's truck and trailer containing his 1916 Ford Model T and Model A P/U were stolen out of the motel parking lot where he was staying in Allen Park.

How sad. I'm guessing the perps skip the 22's and head straight to the scrap yards.

I believe the three-pointed star on the grille of the truck indicates that a 6-cylinder engine resides under the hood. Whether it's a Merc or a Ford is a question for a more informed man than I.

By the way, thanks for the pictures and story of your auto archeology!

ScottG
The State of Ohio permits model year plates to be cross-registered with standard historical tags. One form and a photostat of the model year plates are all you need. The best part is that the historical tags are a permanent registration requiring only a one-time fee.

That's an interesting position for a young guy and one I wouldn't have expected. The whole computer thing is more your generation while my generation of retirement age are traditionally the newspaper crowd.

Yes, many of my peers are fully and happily immersed in the digital age that is currently being foisted upon us. However, those of us in our early thirties were really only on the cusp of the whole PC/internet boom. For instance, I rarely saw a computer in use in our high school (graduated in 1995) and never had the slightest clue about the internet until I began attending university. As a matter of fact, I ended up as one of a handful enrolled in an obscure "Computers for Business" class during my junior year because the typing class (yes, complete with IBM Selectric II typewriters) was popular and filled up quickly. So, while it's a broad generalization, I would say that the twenty-somethings (and younger) out there were the ones that really "grew-up" with computers. Yes, there were geeks that I knew that messed with Commodores and Apples, but for the most part we, like our parents and grandparents, were late comers to this digital "party."

Regardless, while I do see the value in the net and PC's, I'm also not so infatuated with technology to be fooled into giving up all of my old print standbys to the new digital media. There's just too much garbage floating around in cyberspace for me to waste time sifting through it to find worthwhile, trustworthy sources.

That said, thank goodness for PackardInfo.com...both trustworthy and imminently worthwhile!

I'm only 33 years old and I feel like a walking anachronism with each passing day. Reading the paper (in print) in the morning is a must for me. I still like to rummage through my overstuffed magazine rack on a rainy day. And, being the nerd that I am, I still like to cut articles out of magazines and newspapers to save for future reference.

While the internet can be convenient and offers some useful benefits, it's wide-open nature will never allow it to compare to a well edited print publication. Let's face it, there's more baloney on the net than in an Oscar-Meyer plant.

I know the day is coming that they'll stop publishing my newspaper and tell me to read it online. That'll be the last day that I read the paper. I also know the day is coming that more of my favorite magazines will make the jump to net-only. That'll be the last day I read those publications. I guess I'll have a lot more time for the car pretty soon.

Next thing you know they'll quit making Packards...Oh wait...

For those unfamiliar, this is a very nice show that is located at a great venue (there's shade and a retail store full of high performance parts to drool over). It's definitely heavy on Studes but a nice little group of Packards is there as well. If you're in the area it's worth the afternoon.

Chances are your body would be stolen, along with the Escalade.

Ummm...that just happened here in Cleveland. See the ugly story at the Cleveland Plain Dealer's website.

Last I heard, of the two victims, only the crematorium is filing charges...

I'd rather walk than take my final ride in an Escalade...

Count me as a fan, too. Actually your ride is really coming together nicely. It's a good thing you're in Cali with smooth roads, though. Slam a car like that in the Midwest and it'd fall into a pot-hole and never get out again!

The 21st series cormorant hood ornament is a combination of the standard, bullet shaped ornament with the pelican situated atop the bullet. The following image is of a 21st series Custom Super Limo that was on display at the Warren, Ohio show this weekend.
