Re: Which hubcaps for a 53 convertible coupe?

Sometimes the part number is stamped in ink on the inside behind or near the back of the center hex. If one or the other still has this number, then it’s a simple matter of looking it up in the Factory Parts List.

Re: 1952 Packard mayfair throttle creeps up

The thin piece should be tight in the rivets at the bottom and if not, it may need re-swaging or even new rivets. You can probably get a riveting kit with swager by looking online I don’t recall the size offhand but you can probably tell by looking at yours. Doing the swaging will require removing the assembly and taking it to some hard surface where the rivets can be tightened.

That said, I don’t think that could account for the throttle creep but it is a point needing to be corrected so a good place to start. Also, maybe some lubrication on the ball at the end of the shaft that goes into the pedal and some at its hinge point.

This car, being in storage for so long, had no wiper blades so a few days ago I put on a pair of NOS Trico that I had. However, in the parked position they are about 2” apart so should it have had 12” blades rather than these 11” blades?

I’m fairly sure that whatever this car’s race history, it was local in California and probably non-professional. It had no particular markings on it but if I have any photos, I’ve not found them.

Makes me wonder if I have the Gearstart flywheel - or flex plate as it was called later. I do have several that I spotted but didn’t look to see what they were as some may not be Packard.

I do need a Gearstart indicator, though, as mine has gone missing. Mine is a Patrician so would need the type with silver lettering. Shown below is the non-Gearstart type in my car now,

I tried to upload a second photo of the Gearstart indicator but got an error that an attack was detected. I know this is to do with the file name but on a mobile device (no PC available) I am unable to rename it.

You’re right, I must have looked up something else. Don’t forget to check the headlight offerings of Vintage Car LED too. They have some very interesting products, including LED headlights that look “normal” although they were out of stock the last I looked.

That is NOT in the VIN verification guidelines for California unless it's hidden very deeply in the law books! It is certainly not in the VIN verification manual. However, the CHP and DMV do not like plates that are screwed on and thus easily changed whereas changing the engine would not be so easy. The current California reg31 VIN verification form does ask what material the plate is and how and where it's affixed.

You would definitely not want a #57 size bulb! Their base is .5" diameter and they are used for exterior lamps. Get the proper bulb size from your owner's manual and go from there but note that you may need to add additional filters to get it down to a reasonable brightness.

It’s certainly a heavy duty bracket so quite possible! of course, that would imply the Packard made the race car themselves.

(If you ever want to sell a spare bracket or compressor, I’m willing to buy!)
