I found a gasket that was the exact right size at O'Reilly's, but it was too thin to seal. Today I'm going back to get another on and double them up. An old hot rodder recommended to me I put a layer of red RTV between the two gaskets for added sealing and thickness, but I'm not sure about that.... I guess it can't hurt to try!

Thanks for the specs!! The parts store has header collector gaskets in 2.25" ID 1/16" (0.0625") thick, in fiber, copper, or steel core fiber... Based on your specs these should work ok with the ears cut off. Otherwise I found some material in my stash thats fiber on one side, perforated steel on the other, but its only 3/64" (about .047") thick... any thoughts on these two options?

I measure about 2-1/4" OD on the part that goes up inside the manifold.. I've read somewhere that there is a second gasket that goes up inside the manifold, is this correct or is there just once that goes between the flange and manifold?

I like the toggle idea a lot.. That makes a lot more sense to me than the throttle switch.. Then you could switch out of OD without having to floor the throttle, that would be nice for when passing or when in second gear in traffic. I find that a lot of times I'll slow for traffic, but not quite slow enough to click out of OD, and when you accelerate again the engine kind of bogs. Being able to toggle out of OD would be a huge benefit there.

Anyways, it does seem like a huge gap between the linkage and switch.. Maybe something got bent?

You guys really can't figure out what that contraption under the hood is?? It's a Packers car, clearly that's a vacuum operated beer bong!!!!!!!! That bottle off to the side is clearly filled with Schlitz.

On a more serious note, are you restoring this car? I'd love to see something like this get brought back to glory! I will never understand sports fans either... there's a really nice Oval VW bug in my home town, and is a really nice, solid car, except it's all done up in Raiders stuff and has really weird '90s billet wheels... Anyways, I'd really like to see pics of the transformation!!!!

I don't know if you found the wire clips you need, but my buddy at the local paint store found be some that work well for the moldings on my '53. I can't remember what they are for, but the are green zinc coated, kind of S showed with a long finger that bends around and holds it inside the trim, with a standard Christmas tree style prong that clips in the hole. I know that's a horrible explanation... I think I have some left in the trunk, or I can pop a molding off and and I'll post a pic. I'll call him up for a part number as well...

Hey all, I just put new exhaust on my '53 Clipper, 327, and there was no donut or crush gasket or anything between the pipe and the manifold.... I would assume there needs to be since judging by the flange type (top hat style, or at least that's what's we call em. Straight section that goes into manifold, with a flat ring around it maybe an inch down) I see in the Kanter book they list a flange gasket, but no picture. Does anybody know what type/size of gasket goes in here?? It would be nice to just pick one up from the local parts store and not wait for shipping.... Any help it much appreciated!!!

Cleaned all the contacts on the gov. and the lock out switch, and found a loose connection to the lockout switch, fixed that... Back in business!!

The kick down switch doesn't, and never did work.. when i fully depress the throttle it doesn't even touch the switch, about an inch between... I can see a definite wear mark where it did work at some time in the past, but is obviously way out of whack now. What's the procedure for this?

Thanks for the info! I didn't touch anything but the relay and solenoid before, so I'm sure its a matter of going through the rest of the system now. I'm driving it over to my buddy's house anyways, now he's interested to figure it out as well I'll post back with results! Thanks again!

Ok, so I've been driving the Packard to school this past week, happy as a clam. Until today!! Me and my girlfriend are cruising to my buddy's house to shoot the breeze and check out the progress on his '60 Suburban, I go to get on the freeway in 2nd, let off the gas, and no click. I shift right into 3rd and wind it up to around 45 and it clicks into OD when i let off the throttle, but kicks right back out as I give it gas. I babied it along to the next exit and took surface streets home. I check the relay again by grounding the yellow wire. Both the relay and the solenoid click. Does thus mean the governor could be the culprit?? That's the only part I haven't touched yet...
