I am trying to buy a battery for my Caribbean. Antique Auto Batteries from a Hemmings ad has a reproduction exect as original Willard battery for $225.00 or a 1 inch taller Optima inside a WIllard case for $295.00 that is maintenence free.

Does anyone have an opinion on which I should get or know of anything or anywhere else that I should look? Thanks!

We are moving on to having the interior reupholstered. There is a hand-grip for the rear passengers on the rear of the front seat. This grip consists of what appears to be chrome circular attachments with a chain running between them. The chain is covered in what sort of seems like old rubber tubing.

Does anyone know what the actual covering material should be on the grip? Thanks!

Is anyone able to verify the RPO codes regarding the 8:20 x 15 tire upgrade option? As said above, given the weight of the car, I would like to go with the bigger tire if it is proper. I certainly don't want to do so if it isn't a proper alternative, however.

The wire wheels have been redone and are in. Now I need to know what kind of tire to put on. I have looked at many manufacturers and styles and am confused.

I am hoping to get a bit of a consensus here as to what to put on the car.

Radial vs. Bias
Size of tires
Width of whitewall
Manufacturer of tire
Where to buy

Everyones comments and ideas would be appreciated!

1954 Caribbean valve clearance problem

We are trying to finish our 1954 Caribbean engine. I am told that valve clearance is very important and that there is a tool that you insert through the block to the lifters to set the tappet (sp?) and valve clearance. The mechanic working on the engine calls it a feeler gauge. We can't seem to locate one. Does anyone know where we can buy one of these tools for a '54 Packard or if there is some other way of setting the valve clearance?

Thanks!
