Thanks Howard; That's what I thought, but I needed verification. My switch is mounted in the opposite placement on from the Packard wiring schematic, or turned with wires facing towards the front on the car. I was worried if I screwed up the wiring placement if that would be a real problem, so as long as I keep the wires on the A and B terminals that's all I need to do. I am getting close to a full fire up testing of my total rewire of this car, and I don't want any Dave screw up problems. I also rewired the rear of the car from underneath. I took pictures in case you or anyone needs them. There is plenty of room for this.

Thanks so much for your effort. I can rebuild the sockets without removing the light housing. However it would be very nice to know for the future. There are only two visible bolts on my car not four. But after removing the two bolts, the upper bolt removal gave to vision another bolt at a terrible slant through the tail light housing heading towards the reflector trim piece. I don't currently have any tool that would get there. I'd have to make one. But first I want to know if this bolt needs to be removed. Please don't go nuts over this. Since your car seems to be different than mine, as you have four bolts. I'm not sure its worth your valuable effort.

On a 23 series 1949. Over drive Kick Down Switch. Attached sketch. Is this a through type switch?. For instance if I switched the 43 Yellow wire to where the 44 Yellow is, and vise a versa would it make a difference?.

Yes! Howard is absolutely correct. I personally saw those wires and cut them off during my rewire. I ran a new wire harness from underneath, and added that wire to the new harness. If I ever replace the headliner, then I'll bring that power back to the rear of the car. It's just not worth having a fire over.

Yes,I removed the two bolts. But that only gave it a little wiggle. I can see another bolt down there through the light housing
It looks like it is attached to the rear side trim, but it is definitely not going to move. And I'm not going to attempt that bolt until someone who has removed this light can tell me how to. Thanks anyway.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay. This is not a very saut after Packard. I happen to like them, but most people don't. The fact that it's all original would scare me as a buyer. That means all the wiring needs replacing, gauges rebuilt. Fuel tank, and very expensive sending unit redone. And that's just the beginning. I purchased one almost two years ago. Absolutely beautiful car. Super Eight. New interior, good repaint, rust free. I payed $12,500 for it. I drove it once!. I've been fixing all the things that needed repair ever since. I feel I over paid at least $3,000 for it. So if that gives you an idea, from someone who likes them. That's the best I can do.

Has anyone removed the tail lamps on a 23rd series?. If so can you tell me what I need to do to accomplish this?. I was going to rebuild the sockets.

I remember in your previous post you said you bench tested the starter and it worked fine. Another thought; maybe you should have the starter tested for internal wiring issues. I realize the starter not working is an intermittent issue, which is always hard to find, but the starting system is pretty simple. Power from the ignition switch is sent to the Carb switch. Linkage to the Carb when pressed causes the steel ball to to move, completing the circuit through the other wire to the solenoid, the solenoid switch closes, energizing the starter. When the engine runs vacuum is created at the carburetor, pulling the steel ball away, disconnecting the circuit to the starter solenoid.
