Wow. It has been a while since I've posted anything regarding the 400. Mostly, I've been enjoying driving the vehicle and fixing the odd little problems as they arose.

I had taken the windows, including the vents, out of the doors to replace the cracked glass and hopefully re-align the windows into their respective tracks. I picked up a replacement driver's door for cheap that had nice glass in it and that door became the donor for the 400's driver's side glass. With the temperatures falling, I felt it was wise to get the windows back into the doors so that driving the 400 in the autumn would be more comfortable. While the heater works fine, my wife doesn't like having one part of her body warm and the other cold. Odd, huh?

I've run into a bit of trouble getting the window to fit into the tracks. Even when I have the rear track as far foward as it can go, I still have about a half-inch of slop and the window won't stay in the channel. I strongly suspect that the vent window frame is not installed/adjusted correctly but things appear to line up there rather well. Anyone have any experience with installing door windows in coupes that might offer some gems of wisdom? I guess my first question is how does one properly line up the window channel in the vent frame assembly so that the window will remain in both the forward and rear channels when it is operating?

I've appended some recent photos of the 400 so you can judge for yourselves what I'm dealing with. It definitely looks better from the outside.

I was finally able to have my son assist me today in an attempt to find out where the leak in the master cylinder was. I found it. It appears that fluid was pouring out of the base of the fitting where the two brake lines meet the master cylinder when pressure is applied to the brake pedal. I tightened the fitting as hard as I could and it was still leaking significantly when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. I'm resigned to the fact that I have to remove and refit that coupler to the master cylinder, but what should I be looking for when I remove it?

I wasn't recommending that anyone buy those tailight assemblies for $750, I just wanted to point out that the car had factory AC and warn any interested persons that the seller probably has an inflated sense of what the parts are worth. Would be interesting to see what is left under the hood.

Just providing information, not any recommendations.

1955 Patrician being parted out on eBay with factory air!

Here's a "heads up" for those 1955 or 1956 Packard or Clipper owners who want to install a factory air conditioning set up in their vehicles. There is a 1955 Packard Patrician being parted out by a junk yard on eBay. Currently, the seller is only listed the pair of tail light assemblies, but the listing also says that if a potential buyer sees any parts he or she wants to contact the seller. Looking at the dash photo, I noticed that the Patrician has factory air conditioning and the dash control knob and set up and the dash air vents were still with the car -- at least when the photo was taken.

Don't expect to get any parts from the Patrician for a song -- the seller wants a minimum of $750.00 for the two tail light assemblies, which look to be in bad shape. He'll probably want a fortune for any air conditioning parts. But, I suppose that it doesn't hurt to ask.

The red engine colour, if original, indicates it was originally a Clipper engine. A 320? Should be painted ivory with those valve covers!! Just my two cents worth.

Thanks again to Ross and the other contributors to this blog. Managed to get the Patrician's new brake system bled and another problem raised its ugly head.

My master cylinder is hemorraging brake fluid now when I press the brake pedal. My two suspects are the reservoir cap and the junction block where the two brake lines feed off of the master cylinder. I haven't spent the time to narrow down the culprit, but that's a project for another day. At least the system is full of fluid and my next chore is tracking down the leak in the master.

Nothing is ever easy, is it?
