Re: Vapor lock

Home away from home

JWL
Dave, I agree with your assessment. Yesterday I drove my 115C Convertible Coupe on a 30 miles round trip to a car show site. The temperatures in Austin have been 100 or better for the last couple of weeks, and yesterday was 102. The route was on city streets, a highway, and a winding hilly two lane road. The car ran without skipping a beat. The car does not have an electric fuel pump. The car has never overheated nor vapor locked on me, including a long July 4th parade on an equally hot day last year. The car was driven on the 56th Texas Tour last month and it went 300 trouble free miles. The engine is in good tune, the cooling and exhaust systems are stock, but it does have a filter before the fuel pump. Three years ago, I disassembled the fuel pump expecting to overhaul it. It only needed to be cleaned, the diaphrams, valves, and linkage were in good shape. I have not paid any attention to what is in the gasoline here, but do not recall any notice about it containing any ethanol. Maybe I am just lucky.

I took a photo of an AC compressor on a 1940 Super Eight at the 56th Texas Tour. Maybe this photo will be of some help. It is in the Car Show Pictures.

I took two photos of an AC compressor installed on a V-8 Four Hundred at the 56th Texas Tour. They may be of some help.

Edit: They are in the Car Show Pictures section.

Re: 1956 Executive Generator

michaelk, the anchor points on these generators which are really holes in the commutator end housing (back) or drive end housing (front) are common among the Delco Remy and Autolite manufactures. That is, these parts fit across many makes and models of vehicles. Delco and Autolite housings are not interchangeable. Finding a back or front housing for your generator should be relatively easy even in CH. Good luck.

Eric, with the radiator out of the car, it is a good time to remove the water pump and inspect the distribution tube. Also a good time to flush out the block. I have to get the radiator on my '47 repaired and plan on doing these jobs while it is out. Less to worry about.

Hank, thanks for sharing. I believe the old Earl C. Anthony Packard dealership building in Los Angeles has recently been converted to condos. They probably get a bit more for theirs than the ones in Philadelphia. Take care.

Re: Shoulder and Lap Belts

BdeB, These photos show the structure detail I am looking for. They also look like the photos in the Body Section of the 1946-1950 Service Manual, but yours easier to examine. You and Clipper47 make a good point about the strength of the door post. Thanks to you both. I found a site for seat belts, lap only and lap and shoulder. Finding room for the floor mounted inertia reels may be a problem.
