Cobbled together systems? like the one on my 55 that has a budwieser can with rtv and a coathanger as a patch/ connector?
I would love to replace the exhuast on my 56, or at least the mufflers and back, to get rid of that wimpy, small diameter pipe. My system does not have resonators, but has an otherwise very stock looking system and hangers. Id probably go for a set of classic flowmasters to help bring out the sound and liven up the breathing a little.

ozone generated by the arcing at the rotor to cap contact? Due to the increased power of the Electronic ignition system?

like a few others here, i own an example of both, and for a few reasons the 56 is my favorite of the v8 styles. I really like the hooded headlights, wider grill spacing, grille emblem and hood ornament. I like that you dont have to use the key to open the trunk every time on the 56, but i rather like the 55s trunk emblem. its a bit more classic looking.

my service manuals only mention the twin ultra, and most of the books ive read state that the twin ultra was debuted with the new V8 engine to take better advantage of the different torque curve.

and have you tried running the engine with the valve covers off (if it seems to be compression related? ) then you could see if the valves on those 2 cylenders are functioning normally.
I had a cold intermittant miss on my 56 pat and i found that someone had removed the valve covers in the past and left wads of gasket material (new and old) in the top which would clog the drainback holes causing the oil to fill to the point or getting past the valve stems. dont rule out the basics, because the basics can bite your a$$ th hardest.

so does it sound like those two cylenders eventually "kick in" as the engine warms up? could they be getting fould by oil, say by defective valve seals when sitting, then cleaning off as the engine runs?
