The offered car probably was ... a Taxi. Indeed Gerd, I think that might be the case here.In former days in Leningrad (todays St.Petersburg) and Moscow used ZIS and ZIM cars also as taxis, elsewhere including the baltic states these cars where for parade use only. Except some ZIMs that where indeed taxis in the late 60s and 70s in the capital city. I know several former taxis that where later rebuild, whit new parts and offered as some high Communist party members car. This is a old trick that was done here in the 90s and some people fell for this trick. In my eyes this is basically selling a rebuild rust bucket to a unsuspecting costumer. The documentation for this ZIS 110 came from Estonia, in the former papers it says it was a car used on the Haapsalu airstrip (military air base new closed). Yeah, anyone could have written that paper here in the 90s and Gerd proved to us that this car cant be Stalins personal vehicle.

There have been serious doubts wether this car was Stalins personal vehicle or not moste vintage cars collectors here belive its not the vehicle Stalin used when he was still alive.Never the less, Its a very impressive restoration job that has been done. Maybe Gerd can verify this info.

to PackardV8; Indeed (I know that) but its not only the US, people here tend to look for other kind of solutions as well and its not fixing a broken thing.
If its broken it goes to the trash can, when I was 10 year old, this kind of behavior was almost absent(considered even non-rational), new its common everywhere. Time has moved on and the eastern block is also chancing.

Its just my thought but maybe these Mystery holes are made to install the hoses for a heather? But they seem a little to small and not a home made improvement!

Mal, it seems that rebuilding Packard engines at the Workshop is easy as 1-2-3. I like how the rebuilds of the inline 8 engines have been documented!
tracking the ''bling''....well you are right about this one Mal. I think its a way to see, how long one postage can travel from point A to B!

Damn, sorry for saying that, but how did I miss the 4 birthday of Packardinfo.com? I hope its not to late to say that this is a event of one of its kind. I hope that this site will provide information regarding Packards in the future.
But to the ZIL 111 topic.. So it seems the ZIL 111 pushbutton system is really kind of unique but not that unique compared to US analogs, right? One thing I never understand is why the Soviet engineers had to chopped the trim in some not so logic way? Its not just ZIL or ZIS cars, but others as well (etc VOlga) maybe im dryng to see things in the way that they would look logical to me?
