To everyone I say thanks for the information and also thanks for this forum and may it always be as great as it is and has always been.

I did some more research on my own question.
Actually it was an old (great) post I had read on the Packard Club Forum, dated 11/06/01 regarding the torsion level compensator and lubrication required which I had printed and placed in a loose leaf binder where I keep what I consider relative tech tips on servicing and repair of my 5680 Packard Patrician. The question was relative to one I had also asked on this forum regarding grease (lubricant) for the compensator gear box. In that note it was recommended to use "Lithium Stearate grease" but no vendor or brand of grease was referenced.
I have been unable to find the Sta-Lube 3303 here in Hampton Roads which was a recommendation to my question here on this site regarding a suitable grease for the compensator box, so I was trying to follow old leads.
I suppose I will call Sta- Lube and see what they have to say.

I haven't been on the Packard Forum for a long while and I'm sorry to hear of the problems. There was a lot of good info there but this is now home for me. Amen Brothers.

The oldest post i have found was dated 2006. The ?,is that the oldest (Page 28) on the V8 forum. I thought I remembered reading a year or so ago that some of the older posts were to be archived and separate from the regular V8 forum. Am I incorrect about that.
Thanks,

AColds, Many thanks;
That would be great if I can get a deal like that it would be well worth it. The car runs fine so should be no problem loading it.

Thanks, O-D,HH and Green Dragon,
Answers were what I expected. Guess I'll have to round up a roll-off or flat bed trailer. They don't come cheat but, a lot cheaper than rebuilding a tranny.

Is it okay to use a 2 wheeled car dolly to tow a 56 packard pat, with the twin ultra placed in neutral, and would you put the front wheels or the back wheels on the dolly. The trip is about 25 miles one way. I'm going to need exhaust, mufflers and state inspection for first time since buying the car.

Did you check out the Airtex #3461 from a 1961 Ford 352 V8, looks like it has a vac portion for wipers. I couldn't tell much from the pix on Airtex site.

I note there are no cross references on Carter or Airtex websites for the M-2198S fuel pump listed in the Packard Service manual.

What type filter did you have at the tank and do you have a shutoff valve at the tank.

I"ll give her another (closer) look see but,one thing for sure it'll take more than one pair of hands. Like you I also replaced the rear brake lines which runs just beneath the gas line on my 56 pat. In fact both lines use the same support clips at the frame. From the tank the gas line is continuous without any breakout fittings up to the rubber hose connection at the pump. It has some pretty mean angles and offsets at the firewall and engine compartment, but I believe there is always a way.

Yes the tank was pretty rusty inside and I had it cleaned and coated with "Red Kote" at H&H radiator and tank repair. They didn't do a very good job the first time around so I took it back and had them redo it. I installed a ball valve at the tank outlet and have a Fram inline filter just after the valve before the line goes over the frame at the rear axle. I installed the valve to permit changing the filter without having to drain the tank. I also replaced (temporarily I hope) the carter fuel filter at the carb with another Fram filter with a clear plastic housing. I had thought of adding another filter just ahead of the pump but, decided it may be too much for the pump to overcome.
If I still have some sediment or ? after cleaning the line I may add the filter and see what happens. If the pump will handle it I'll change filters for awhile and see if it clears up. Heck maybe the ethanol will eat the stuff.
If all of the above fails to fix the problem I supppose I'll try to find some maleable material to replace the line because I don't want to have more inline fittings than what is factory stock.
