Re: I removed more coolant than will fit back in, why?

Good Evening Brenda...When this happens to me, now and again, I start the engine with the cap off the radiator and then stand and watch to see when the level in the radiator upper tank goes down and then I pour more liquid into the upper tank...It usually takes a bit of time and the system will bubble and then the level in the tank will drop away and I will add more liquid. This can happen several times until all of the liquid is back in the radiator...Good Luck...Ernie

Re: Why an electric fuel pump??

Good afternoon all...I will vouch for the 75 miles an hour in Phoenix and for the extreme temperatures under the hood for old cars here.

Between driving the 1949 Packard and the 1931 Model A Ford...I have seen bubbles in the glass fuel bowl in both machines. Running some Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel does retard the bubbling/boiling as does a bit of diesel...both approaches are used here in the desert in the summer time.

At the Saturday car shows, one can see that a good number of classic cars do have electric fuel pumps to help out. I do not, as my rule is that if it is too hot for our old machines than it is too hot for me! Big Kev must have had the same experience in Riverside, California!

Fred...It seems to me that in New Jersey, you can't put on enough clothes for your coldest days...here in the Sonoran Desert...we can't take off enough clothes without being arrested...and some days, all your bare hide would do is to become burnt to a crisp. Jeans, a long sleeve white T-Shirt, good western boots, and a good hat are the ticket. Ernie

Just a humble reminder...If we don't use our Packard Vendors for the easy things...they might not be around when we are looking for the hard things...Ernie

Good Evening...If you have a window in the garage that can be opened, it might be a good idea to leave it open until the source of the smell is discovered. Ernie

Good Afternoon...Many of us use a 50-50 mixture of Automatic Transmission fluid and Acetone...it will break things loose a bit quicker. There are other products on the market that are also more powerful than what you are using...Basically, don't force it, soak it. Be patient with the old girl. Ernie

Good Morning Brenda...If your 53 is like our 49, there is a little horn relay on the left fender about two inches by one inch or so. Carefully bend the little clips that hold the top on and remove it. Inside you will find a small set of points not unlike the ones in your distributor. Simply clean them and then test your horn again. We had this problem with 'Miss Prudence' and we spent a good bit of time cleaning. Once we polished the points in the relay, the horn went 'BEEP' Ernie

Good Morning...Kantor and Max Merritt are our main suppliers and I would imagine that either would have what you are looking for if it is available anyplace. Give both a call and check availability and price. Ernie
