1955 Clipper Panama Super - $4500 (Youngstown, OH)

Has anyone laid eyes on this one? The seller's pictures leave something to be desired and his description isn't too good, either.

Here is the ad for the car as it appeared in 1988

Just out of curiosity, do you know if the seller is the same person that bought the car from you in 1988? Thirty years is plenty of time for a car to change hands more than once. Regardless, it's sad to see your former Clipper in such sad shape.

1955 Clipper Sedan - $8500 (Lancaster, OH)

Interestingly, a nearly identical 1956 Clipper just sold at auction on July 29, 2017 in Eaton, Ohio for $4000. I wish this guy luck, but I doubt he's going get anywhere near his asking price.

Looks quite nice in the photos but the seller doesn't paint a real optomistic picture of its condition. I wonder how much of the car has been consumed by rust?

Three recent forum threads are now showing "Fatal error" messages. They are:
"Various CL Pickings"
"Oil Pump Adaptor"
"1955 Clipper Panama Auction Results"

Is anyone else seeing this error message on these threads?

1955 Clipper Super Panama - $3000 (Columbus, OH)

Not a bad price if it's not too crusty underneath.

A 2nd try at '55 Clipper Panama Super Auction Results
#89
Home away from home
Home away from home

The computer gods seem to have scrambled my original post so let me try again...

A classic car dealer has been advertising a 1955 Clipper Super Panama on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $34,500. The car seems to be in really nice shape and the seller claims to know its provenance back to the 1980's. This week the dealer also listed the same car in a traditional auction format with an undisclosed reserve. After 23 bids, the auction closed as a no-sale at $9100.

As a 1950's era hardtop with a V8, the car seems to have a lot going for it. Period correct and attractive two-toning add to its luster. A final bid under $10K seems really low all things considered unless I'm missing some fatal flaw with the car itself.

So what happened? The market came in nearly $25K below asking price. Is the market that soft for non-classic Packards? Or is the seller simply out of his mind with his asking price? Or is it something else I'm missing here.

I look forward to hearing thoughts from the experts here. [Sadly] I'm not in the market often enough to make sense of this one. (Although if 50's hardtops can be had for less than 10 grand I may be in the market soon!)

To 64Avanti: I saw you replied to my post before the computer scrambled things. Would you mind adding your thoughts to this post as well? Thanks.

A classic car dealer has been advertising a 1955 Clipper Super Panama on eBay with a "Buy it Now" price of $34500. The car looks to be in very nice condition and the dealer claim to know the car's provenance back to the 1980's. Just this week the car was also offered on eBay in a traditional auction format with an undisclosed reserve. After 23 bids, the car was a no-sale at $9100. That's a nearly $25K difference between the ask and what the market seems willing to pay.

So my question is this: at what price point should a car in this condition be selling? It seems to have a lot going for it inasmuch as it's a fifties hardtop with a V8 in attractive period colors. Has the market become this soft for non-classic Packards or is the seller just simply out of his mind with his asking price?

I look forward to hearing what those of you who are more active in the market think about this one.

Here's a pic for reference:
