Gents,
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I hope to get back in the garage in the next few weeks and put some of those suggestions to practice and will report back.

56 Carib Driver's side fender alignment

The day started out with great promise but ended in a stalemate. After 6 or 7 tries to re-attach the driver's side fender back on the Caribbean, the rear frame holes to the fender will not line up. I pulled a picture from the day I disassembled it and you can see the last two bolts attached the inner fender at the very bottom of the opening.

There is really not much you can adjust once you attach the cowl bolt to make the rear of the fender come down. I do not want to risk cross threading a bolt into the frame. So that left me wondering if I should attempt to remove a front body shim to bring the body down about an eighth onto the frame.

I did not want to dive off into the deep end of the pool without checking with you guys. Let me know if you have any suggestions as I did not run into this when I re-attached the passenger side.

Thanks,
Robert.

I give up Randy. The trunk clips are squared off so that was a dead end. In all the work I have done from the firewall forward on my car I did not run across that piece either. When you do identify the part, I am now even more curious as to whether my car has or had one.

Regards,
Robert.

ps. the "rare light weight connecting rods" was killing me :)

It certainly does look like a inside trunk wiring harness support as Brian mentioned. The clip portion looks very familiar to the clips around the trunk liner but I do not recall one in my Carib with the extended bracket. I will check this weekend to see if I can find anything similar.

Randy,

My 56 Caribbean has the yellow stripe on both driver and passenger sides. I can post a picture tonight if you would like to see the yellow marking. I do not however have any of the documentation.

Thanks,
Robert.

The 1987 Cormorant article "All the Caribbeans, Examining the Roster," lists 15 factory air conditioned Caribbeans with number 276 being not only the last of the line but the last factory equipped air conditioned Caribbean.

Thank you for your reply and I completely understand.

I will be glad to provide the information you requested and send it to you in a PM. I know I have most of the information but I will make sure when I get home this evening.

Dave,

I would be very grateful if I could request a copy of the production order and shipping order for my 1956 Caribbean convertible. It would be of tremendous help in the documentation of my vehicle and I would be willing to provide reasonable renumeration for the effort to this anonymous individual if desired. My Caribbean is 5699-1240 and as a PAC member myself it is registered with the club.

Sincere thanks for your time and consideration.
Robert.

John,
Congratulations on finding the screws intact. It makes the job that much easier.

Attached are a couple more pictures you might find useful.
The first picture shows the back where it will attach to the firewall and you can see the collar sticks out enough to fit snug into the firewall opening. The second picture is the only other gasket which is original and I reused it. I have seen them new from Steele Rubber Company if you need one.

Good luck and thanks for the kind words.

Robert.
