Good morning James...Your overheating video is wonderful...I wish I had had it to view when I was working on 'Miss Purdence'...She is fine now, but really had me talking to myself a few years ago. These old Packard girls really need to feel wanted in order to operate properly. Ernie

Good Morning all...Just a short note in support of Kanter and Max. Thank God that they and other dedicated suppliers are in the market as it would be far harder to restore a Packard without them. E-bay sellers are not the same as dedicated companies that take the time to specialize in old machines and have good return policies. They may be less expensive, from time to time, however they don't have the specialty items that we often need and often need quickly. Ernie

Thanks, Fred...I think that 30,000 is really cool. It calls for a bit of adult refreshment! Erne

Good Evening...So with what people are saying and the number of folks selling parts, pieces and advice...it is reasonable to think that there are more than a good few thousand on the road around the world.

I only ask as it seems to me that Packards are on the increase, rather than the decrease, especially as we have some folks who restore cars for money even asking us for information.

We even have a few folks who are working on their grandfathers Packards that have not been on the road for many years.

I think that on Monday, I will count the number of members in the Packard Club and Packards International and see what that number might be.

If there are more cars running than say 20 years ago...I think that is cool. Mal I stand corrected, or rather I sit corrected!

Thanks, Ernie

How many Packards are running?

Good Morning all...It seems I have been reading a great deal lately about Packard Automobiles out of barns and garages and finding themselves back on the road.

Mal continues to add cars to the Owners Registry and someplace I saw that this site has some 6,000 users/members. Hemmings seems to have a couple of hundred available at any one time. e-bay seems to have quite a supply as well. So does the Packard club site/which I know overlaps this site by quite a large percentage.

So my question is: Does anyone have an educated guess as to how many Packards are on the road, these days? Is the total number of those that are running increasing?

Thanks, Ernie

Good morning Joe...Just for the hell of it, can you ask your mechanic what liability issue he is referring to and then post the answer on the forum. Many of us would be interested in his reasoning. Thanks, Erne...caretaker of the 1949 288 Deluxe 'Miss Prudence'.

Good Morning all...When I needed touch up paint for our 1949 Deluxe 'Miss Prudence' I went to Space Age Paint in Mesa, Arizona. They had old paint chips from 1949, however they e-mailed Dupont and asked for a current formula that would make the 1949 color. About two weeks later, Dupont responded with the modern formula. I suspect that a big automotive paint supplier in your area could do the same thing. The paint match was really close and it does look perfect in some lighting situations. Ernie

Good afternoon all...While I am lucky and Advanced Automotive in Scottsdale, Arizona. Alex Alfaro will work on almost any machine back to the Model T. I would suggest that you go on Cars.Com as the car guys have Mechanics files set up by State and City. A few phone calls or e-mails might be an easy way to locate a shop that has 'Old Guys' or one that does older and classic cars, or even hot rods. Just a thought. Good Morning...I live in Scottsdale and have a 1949 288 Deluxe 'Miss Princess'. Nice that you found your old girl so close to home...hiding in plain sight. If you need extra hands, now and again, give me a shout. Ernie
