1950 Packard Eight Touring Sedan

Hello all,

Creating a thread here to document the revival of this old girl. To start out with - my knowledge of Packard's is extremely limited, just internet research on this model/series for the past few weeks. I consider myself mechanically inclined with a little bit of automotive experience. I have a couple other projects on my plate, so this may be a long-term goal to completion.

My story with this vehicle starts with a call from a buddy of mine who works with a lady who's father had recently passed away, leaving her with his estate which she was selling off. He had a ton of stuff packed away in his small shop and several trailers and vehicles parked in the back yard. My friend purchased a 1919 Model T fire truck off of her and we went over to collect it. One of the things still available was this Packard.
What she knows is that her father had purchased the vehicle from some guy named George in Virginia and parked the car where you see it. There most recent registration tag is from 1992, so this has been sitting there for probably at least 20 years. The body is very straight and it looks like it's all there in original condition. The dry Arizona climate has done a good job of preserving the metal, with some minor surface rust (ooohhh, it's "Patina") but the heat also did a number on the interior, which is pretty much toast. The only bad cancer I can visibly see is a couple places in the rockers, a small patch in the trunck where the spare tire sits, and two low spots in the floor pan beneath the driver/passenger. Not too bad considering.

So after sleeping on it, and discussing with the Mrs., I just couldn't let it pass me by. The next weekend we came back with a trailer and I took her home.

So from what I gather what I have here is a 1950 Packard Eight Touring Sedan. Don't think it was a Deluxe, but still fuzzy on what those options entail.

Looking at a lot of work - taking everything apart, cleaning, refurbishing, and putting back together. Would like to maintain as much originality as possible, but not going crazy about it. For example there's no A/C and if we want to enjoy driving it here in Phoenix that's a must-have item. The wife is pretty excited about it, looking forward to taking it out on date nights or Sunday morning breakfasts. Hopefully within the next decade or so!

Apologies in advance for picture quality. A photographer I am not

keep getting "Protector detects attacking actions" error messages on certain pictures. :(

Used to doing a IMG / URL link to Photobucket, but doesn't seem like that's an option.

I think you're right with the ID, 23rd series Eight, as I do not see upper stainless trim above the side windows. If the plate is still screwed to the cowl , driver's side, the model numbers will be there. Just for fun, reach under the dash, on top of the glove box liner - the build sheet is sometimes there

bkazmer - Thanks for the heads-up on the build sheet, I'll check for it. I have pics of all the relevant numbers...just trying to get them all attached!

The photo size looks good and as long as you keep the photos around the same size -- or at least less than 2 megs they should post. One thing the site has problems with is long titles or numerals separated by multiple periods. The default Apple format with numerals appended -- 2014-05-03 at 2.30.22 PM. -- would have problems. The way the time is written would get the protect error so for it to post would require an edit to remove the time.

I believe the time out is somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes. If the site sees what it considers no action it times out. Even though you are typing during that period it sees typing alone as no action. Do a periodic preview of your post while you are typing and that constitutes action so it should stay active.
