Our 54 Carib has Green carpet and it is original still. Carpet is a medium mossy green but yet not color of rest of green in interior.

I could also use this type of pull handle which will bolt right in as well (need a pair if we go this route). This style was used in 1931 with a white plastic/bakalite grip) and in very late 31 and 32 with the metal grip as in pictures.

Its actually glass lense in a chrome frame. Stick a fine blade in on the length end and twist. See pictures above of 55/56

West, we have had it for about 5 weeks. Super nice car (10,000 miles) and will be even better after I give it a wheel repaint (whole car was painted once before) and general pick-me up/replace all broken parts and especially replace blown headgasket(someone used too small an acorn nut and ... DO NOT EVER DO SUCH). After headgasket is replaced then let's go driving as everyone keeps saying it is the nicest handling Packard they have ever driven.

The ebay handles you mention are just too wrong for car in both their size and mounting, but thank you for posting as it will help others in seeing the other kinds used.

Do not be so sure about your condensor - the works or does not work principal is often quite WRONG here.

Also, on our drivers we use 00 welding cable for battery to starter lines. make sure battery is well grounded to frame with clean rust free surface area and it does not hurt to run a ground strat from the starter to the frame (but do not do so in your pre 1934 cars w.the single starter bolt - "say" have you ever seen a cracked crankase from a loose starter bolt connection ?

And, a toy battery does not cut it - you need a good strong battery - I use an Optima for the drivers.

Never hurts to have good distributer bushings (i have a 32 to work on this week w/too much shaft play.

Vacuum tanks actually work well and the Packard style is the best as it has a prime fitting on the top (should you loose prime).

Use a cork gasket - paper will let you down every time; and holes for screws should be snug against the screw shaft - ie do not use a paper hole punch just because it makes a hole that is close - you really need an exact size hole. Also pipe fittings need to be tight (but they are fragile so do not overtighten) and top of tank bolts need to be snug (overtighten and you will warp lid - it is just die cast and very fragile. Equally, you also need to shut the gas off at the bowl when the car is parked for any more than a few hours.

Things tend to go south as far as maintaining prime after a few months, but a help is to Use Stabill in your gas as a preservative.

I wrap my gasoline lines in old fashion braided electrical wire wrap and wrap the exhaust pipes from and from manifold to front floor and to kick-up of rear axel to tail. remember, there was a time when the goal was to preheat the gasoline (thus why your exhaust almost wraps your gasoline tank).

Electric pumps and vacuum tanks are not a hand in hand thing and a good way to set your car on fire. Use one or the other. If you do go electric install a pressure regulator. I am not sure that 1/2 lb of pressure will supply the fuel bowl with the needed volumn of gas to drive at speed though. A 1930 carb is pretty primative as far as a needle and seat. I run the more advanced carbs (ex. 35 V-12 at 2.5 lbs). I run all the vacumn tank cars on original systems - and live w/such as just a nature of the beast pain the the ...

Wanted:1930 Packard Assist Handle

Hello,

I am in need of a match to this Assist handle pictured that is mostly used in 1930 740 and 745 club sedans and limousines. I am in need of a whole handle of at minimum the upper bracket metal piece - condition of plastic is unimportant.

If you have a pair, I would gladly install 1931 840 and 845 handles ot 1932 903, 904, 905, or 906 handles (they are different but match the door handles and such - my car is an early 1931 and by later 31 they had changed style but they bolt right up and I think are equally attractive if not more so attractive).

Either way the handles are immediately identifyable by the four screws in handle (2 screws on each end).

New castings are fine.

Bingo - You Hit The Nail On The Head as to the pictures. In addition, Bill's documents lead me to believe there is also some film footage of the car.

Power window discussion is interesting as obviously it is exactly just that (a second car, an evolution of one, or some very good air brushing/touching up of photos).
