Re: treadle vac brakes

i talked to the guy that rebuilt the unit and he says the problem may be a broken spring in the vacuum control valve.the spring apparently is not serviceable so another valve from another core would have to be installed to hopefully correct the concern.i also talked to him about another concern that just came up,the brake pedal bleeds down when you are at a stop with no leaks.he says that the problem may be with the compensator valve not sealing and allowing brake fluid to bleed back to the bowl in the m/c .so me adding a check valve to the vacuum and correcting the bake pedal staying down was just a coincidence because the problem just returned.looks like its time for some warranty work.

nope no check valve, just a fitting that the hose attaches to for the booster.i have the 2 barrel carb so it may be different from a four barrel

i can feel the pedal return when the car is off,but when running you can see the pedal being sucked down when you barely push on the pedal and then will stay down.i noticed when the pedal is down i can just tap on it and it will come back up.the whole unit was rebuilt about 8 months ago this is the first time i am able to drive the car.thanks wes

im sure that this topic has come up before, but i have a 56 clipper with a rebuilt treadle vac and noticed the pedal will kind of pulse like its being pulled down buy itself and then the pedal will not come back up unless you pull it back up.

i ended up sourcing two clips from a 56 patrician.my clips the stud was attached to the trim clip directly, but the clips from the patrician have a bar welded from lip to lip and the stud is attached to that bar.ill try to get some pics posted.thanks to all that responded

yep i tried the stud gun method with no success.just got the stud and clip red hot but didnt adhere.it looks like it may have had some kind of braze material on the end of the stud because it melted off with the stud gun.i think i will try brazing it.
