Isn't there a quadrant light as well as a pointer light?

In 1961, they bought STP and in '63 they hired Andy Granatelli (sp?) to elevate the brand through racing, so there was some cash, somewhere. One of my club's members bought a "crate" engine for his '56 Patrician in about '63 or '64. He bought the car in '57 and still has it. I'll see if he knows, or can get, the casting date off it.

Too bad that Packard was all but gone by the time of this "test." It would have been interesting to see T/L cars follow the Mopars.

I wonder just how long the gov't required Packard to furnish replacement parts? This could well explain the motor casting dates, it seems. When DeSoto went out, Chrysler was required to furnish parts for at least 5 years as per a friend of my father's who was an accountant for a dealership at the time. Certainly, this was easier for Chrysler than for Packard but Uncle Sam is Uncle Sam....

The '56 juniors used the same (3.54) ratio for plain 3-speed or O/D, same as the '55 and'56 senior TU.

I have a '56 Clipper parts car with 3 speed, no overdrive. I also have the driveshaft for a senior car needs u-joints but everything you would need for a conversion. Also have spare tranny. I had planned to convert a '56 Patrician but health issues have come up. I'll be having surgery tomorrow but if you are interested, we can talk soon.

I own a '56 Clipper Deluxe with manual transmission and no overdrive. I have seen one other that was delivered here in Birmingham and there was a '55 Deluxe without overdrive here but I've not seen it in many years. I got a spare transmission and driveshaft from a wrecked '55 40 that had been converted and that transmission is Clipper green, so there must have been a number of cars equipped this way. In 1956, there were few highways with speed limits above 60, so not that many people regarded overdrive as necessary, apparently. Plus, the standard rear axle ratio for the stick (or overdrive) was 3.54- the same as Senior cars- and few have complained about them over-revving the engines.
