A PM to flackmaster might be worth the time. Vendors probably still do the rebuilt originals but I think his repro works equally well. I believe the repros are stronger than originals and will fit several models.

If I understand what you are describing, and Howard's reply; then, it is a clutch anti-chatter rod. Packard may have a different name for it. It reduces clutch chatter, especially in reverse gear. It really smooths out the clutch and shifting operations.
