Not sure which bolt you mean for linkage exactly but if you can identify the part by group # in one of the illustrations in parts manual, generally the quantity, size and type of ordinary bolts needed for attaching the part will be listed lower down in the same group or section. If it is a common item, sometimes there is even more information given for the part number in the utility section.
If it is something made special for just that application then generally there is only the part number and no descriptive details given.

Not quite sure what you mean by linkage since 1938 should still have the cane shift cover assembly that bolts to the transmission case.
The bolt size for the cover assembly is 5/16-18 by 13/16 long as found under Group 3.203 in the 1935-41 Parts List.
