Oil Pump pickup

The never ending saga of the early 282 and the later 282.
I'm trying to install the oil pump pickup from the late 282 on my early, replacement, 282. Have I screwed something up or did they move the pickup forward to the next web in the block? Is it just a matter of a shorter supply tube or is it a completely different pickup?

This is where it fits the holes. the oil pan will not fit with the pump here.

My '37 120 has the oil pickup near the middle of the pan, front to rear. The drain plug is located in the same area on the driver side, and the pan has a round depression in it around the middle point directly below where the oil pickup is. I don't think the '37 used the extension pipe from the oil pump to the pickup. The '37 shop manuals have some pictures, and the manuals and some of the sales brochures discuss the oil pickup arrangement on the '35-'37 120s.

The oil pump assembly fits the oil pan. I'm considering a modification to use the pump I have and the pan that fits it.
