The coil in the picture has been on the since I purchased it around 1987 and always seems to function properly. But one of the tabs on the rear that holds the ignition wire in place just broke. The three left can hold it? Does anyone have a holder that can be used? Or a ring, or? I have three other coils I have never used that I keep, two nos philco and american bosch, and one new rebuilt by Max Merritt I got a number of years ago, so if needed can change to one of those? Thanks

You can use it with only three tabs but be careful not to splash through deep water. However, the bracket looks different than I recall from all my 1940 Packards. I have a couple of these coils at my Oregon shop but they have even fewer tabs which is why I've not tried to sell them and which was the reason they were replaced in the first place. This was a weak point on these cars.

You can secure the cap to the coil by making up several small "L" brackets from sheet steel and securing them to the coil body with a radiator hose clamp. Painting the patch job to match the coil will minimize visual impact.
