Do I assume correctly, that the inner wheel well is spot welded to the outer fender on the V8 55-56?

I am getting ready to remove the inner wheel well for some fender repair and I dont want to hack it up.

Hi Troy, it seems to me that the fenders are spot welded.
In the absence of bolts or screws....
It must have seemed like a great idea at the time

I just looked at a driver's side fender I have from a '56 Patrician (under a ton of boxes in the basement). Unless there are some spot welds I can't see, the inner fender is bolted in place. There are bolts that hold the inner to the structure the vacuum reserve can is bolted to and I can see bolts near the battery box. There is heavy undercoating on it, so I can't swear to the whole thing but it would be odd, even for Packard, to hide any spot welds with so many bolts visible.

I believe the top side of the inner fender is spot welded to the outer fender. The rest I believe is bolted.

They are spot welded along the top and front edge. You would have to break the spot welds to separate. If you can do the repairs without separating, that would be the easiest path forward. A unispotter (stud welder) works in places where you can't get a hammer behind.
