1940, 110 dual master cylinder.

I would like to replace the single master cylinder on our 1940 with a dual master cylinder now that all the other mechanics are done. I have searched the modification forums but cannot locate one addressing this issue. This car is to be a driver so Radial tires and a dual master cylinder are next on the list.
Please no comments like the current Bendix discussion just a source for a direct replacement and instructions to accomplish. I do not want to bother anyone or infringe on your money spent or time researching/developing, just a lead even if I totally missed a site in the modification section.
Your information is appreciated.
Thank You
John Miller

To my knowledge, you won't find a direct bolt on kit, you'll have to make one. I would imagine that the '40 would be similar enough to my '37 and '48 cars that I could walk you through making one yourself.

If Eric has done it, or can help then probably doable. I think the biggest problem is making the mount.

Other than the single repro masters Kanter makes, no drop ins I'm aware of because Packard used a cylinder with the bolts located well below the reservoir. I believe on some cars they also used one of those locations or the boss in the middle to support one end of the clutch/brake shaft. Don't know if the 40 was one that did.

Anything I have found either has the bolts right below the reservoir ie too high for the linkage to line up, or with bolt ears on the piston end.

The best way to put a modern dual line master cylinder on a frame mounted Packard is to do it like this, that way all your parts can be sourced locally.

Glad to help. I'm not entirely sure where that picture came from, I found it on the 'net years ago and thought it was worth keeping.

It's a bit difficult to see but I welded up an "L"shaped bracket and attached it to the stock mounting bracket. Someone could easily return my car to the pure stock setup (although I don't why they would want to)

That's the best kind of modifications IMHO, the reversible kind.

I can do that, fabricate a bracket as illustrated.
Question, do you happen to have a part #/source for the master cylinder you used?
thanks
John
