accelerator spring??

the spring that is on the firewall for the accellerator assy is broken. 1948 custom 356. where do I start looking for a replacement? or do I just rube goldberg it? CC TIA

Kanter has them but at $38.00 for NOS I'd be sorely tempted to check out McMaster-Carr's "extension springs with special ends" and see what I could come up with. There are a few that look very promising. Orchard Hardware's spring selection is a bit more limited but sometimes surprises as well.

On McMasters site, If you can measure or sort by a few of the dimensions they use to drill down then I expect you could come up with something fairly close to the original. Measuring the wire gauge with a micrometer would be a good start to getting the proper strength.

Downside would be you have to buy their quantity packages of 3 or 4 springs but the most expensive offering is still a third the price of the original and you would have spares.

Thanks for the rapid response. I have a parts car I can liberate one from, hoping that it will last at least 10 years. hoping to take a pic of the new to me spring and blow it up so I can get the placement of it clear in my mind. thanks again for all the help CC
