Slots in top of 47 cardboard glovebox

Was making a new glovebox for the 47 and found the old one has two factory holes -- more like slots about 1/4 wide and 3/4 long -- centered about an inch from front & back in the top. On later cars openings were for access to something above -- like the radio in case of the 55-6.

I can't see a reason for them on the 47 since it would appear there is nothing but the metal bottom of dash above. More out of curiosity, can someone think of a reason or some missing option as to why they were there.

Howard - Maybe the slots are there to accommodate a holding fixture for the fabrication process. Ron Carpenter might know the reason for them. He makes replacement glove box liners.

Maybe. Don't see any other reason -- unless the same box was used on other models. This one is cut, fitted and ready for flocking so unless someone has any ideas before the flock adhesive goes on will leave them out.
