Thought I'd leave a note that I drove my first Packard in over 30 years. Never drove a non-V8. Can't say it "took me back" but for those who are into these cars, it's a '51 DeLuxe with three on the tree, overdrive and a 327. Quite straight looking overall. It is at a car dealer near where I work. It "starts, runs, drives" but to me it was quite truck-like. Nothing like the experience of a '55 or '56. But then, they were 30 years newer back when I drove them. Have a couple of pics, could get a few more if anyone is interested, PM me.

Not sure what that means. Do u mean there was a lot of steering wheel effort needed to turn steering wheel???? It probably did not have power brakes either????

Unless the car was modified later, neither power steering nor power brakes were offered in 1951 though Packard did later offer a kit to retro-fit the 1951 cars with Easamatic brakes.

I have a 51 200 with 327 and three speed. When you first move, the steering is heavy, but once you're over about 3 miles per hour, its easy to steer. Check the tires - if they've switched to radials and/or wider tires that can make it tougher to turn the wheels. It doesn't spin in your fingers like a 68 Lincoln, but I really like the way it handles.
