Install a temperature gauge for the trans to determine IF IT ACTUALY A HEAT CONDITION!!!
Quite frankly and based on the problems u cite with recent rebuild i would be suspicous of a poor quality rebuild and or parts used.

I would put an auxiliary cooler in it as a matter of course. And who knows if that original cooler isn't the cause of a lot of Ultramatic problems itself. If it's restricted the converter will overheat and drive down the line pressure.
However, if the trans rebuild is a clunker. Well, I would take it in for a line pressure test. If the line pressure is low it will slip and overheat. There is no way you shouldn't be very satisfied with the 727 unless the rebuild is a clunker.
