I do not believe that is correct. Monroe 911096 has eyelets on both sides, The 56 T/L fronts have the Rod for the top and the T-Bar at the bottom. I personally only use KYB Excel G on all my vehicles. KYB, is the OEM replacement manufacturer for the big three.

This also comes up because the aftermarket people want to do a one size fits all & didn't account for the different shocks between 55 and 56. There is a discussion from a couple of years ago showing an adapter that some have used to utilize different shock mounts.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... ic.php?post_id=79115#forumpost79115

Here's a picture, courtesy of Randy Berger, of the Monroe (MAECO) adapters that allow the use of bottom post-mount shocks on a 56. These were very common in their day but it's not often that you come across a set these days.
